Stephen King Movies

The majority of movies that Stephen King has been involved in.

I didn't think Flixster had TV movies, but the worst SK movie Langoliers in on here.

Rose Red, Golden Years, The Stand, and Nighmares & Dreamscapes aren't though.

I can't find him attached to Pet Semetary 2 or the other Mangler movies. Also The Lawnmover Man had some kind of lawsuit.

There's also two short movies called Gramma and Word Processor of the Gods according to my friend Neil.

Apt Pupil (1998,  R)
Apt Pupil
The movie is quite well acted. Dark and disturbing with the Stephen King feeling that I usually get from his books. The play of power and control between Renfro and McKellan is awesome. This is not a happy movie be prepared for darkness but great depth.
2
Carrie (1976,  R)
Carrie
Absolute classic. Sissy Spacek is great as a beaten down high schooler. Beaten down by her near insane mother and cruel fellow students, Carrie finally flips and becomes the vengeful demigod they forced her to become.
3
The Rage: Carrie 2 (1999,  R)
The Rage: Carrie 2
Surprisingly good remake, not as good as the first, but the actress who plays Rachel the new "Carrie" is well casted and does a good job. Its basically Carrie just updated though, so don't get too excited for some new twists.

Stephen King's Cat's Eye (1985,  PG-13)
Stephen King's Cat's Eye
Nice collection of short stories. Like Tales from the Darkside. All stand up well on their own, but as a kid I loved the Drew Barrymoore one the best. As an adult I tend to like the James Wood one the best now.
6
Children of the Corn (1984,  R)
Children of the Corn
Its a great movie on its own, creepy kids take over a small town and sacrifice themselves to some god before they become adults. too bad for that silly couple that bumbles into town, want kids? might want to rethink that lol.
7
Children of the Corn II: The Final Sacrifice (1993,  R)

Creepshow (1982,  R)

Cujo (1983,  R)
Cujo
I only just saw this one recently and wished I had seen it sooner. Basically what would have happened if Old Yellar hadn't been gunned down. Giant St Bernard goes on a rampage of wanton destruction and terrorizes a young family. If big dogs didn't scare you before, they might just now.
16
Creepshow 2 (1987,  R)
17
The Dark Half (1993,  R)
The Dark Half
One of my favorite SK movies. Timothy Hutton does a great job as a bookish novelist who ends up having to defend his reality to save himself and his family. Touch spiritual in a way. What really constitutes a person's identity.
18
The Dead Zone (1983,  R)
The Dead Zone
This movie fights for the top spot on my SK list. Even though I find Christopher Walken a bit limited in his ability to be other than C. Walken, I think he does a great job in this movie. Awakening from a coma he finds himself able to see the future which unfortunately or fortunately involves the death of the person he touches. So glad they made this into a TV series.
19
Stephen King's Desperation (2006,  R)
20
Dolores Claiborne (1995,  R)
Dolores Claiborne
Kathy Bates plays a quiet hardworking New England woman who is accused of murdering her employer. The story unfolds depicting two murders and how far people can go to protect themselves and their children.
21
Dreamcatcher (2003,  R)
Dreamcatcher
Not one of my favorite SK movies, especially the creatures with a fascination with anal entry. I need to read the book and maybe I'll appreciate the movie more.
22
Firestarter (1984,  R)
Firestarter
Drew Barrymoore does a great job, but is supported so well by David Keith and Moses Gunn. Nice suspense and action, but a great coming of age story too.
23
Firestarter 2: Rekindled (2002,  PG)
24
Graveyard Shift (1990,  R)
25
The Green Mile (1999,  R)
The Green Mile
One of SK's great non-horror stories. Great story of redemption and empathy.
26
Hearts in Atlantis (2001,  PG-13)
Hearts in Atlantis
I need to try and watch it again, I just couldn't get into it for some reason, which is unusual since I love SK.
27
Stephen King's It (1990,  Unrated)
Stephen King's It
I've always found clowns creepy and tim curry did a great job at being especially creepy. I need to watch it again though as my memory of the actors is limited
28
The Langoliers (1995,  PG-13)
The Langoliers
One of the worst movies made for TV, horrible acting. I haven't read this story, but it has to be better than the movie.
29
The Mangler (1994,  R)
30
Maximum Overdrive (1986,  R)
Maximum Overdrive
KInda cheesy, but still a fun action flick. Machines come alive and start killing people, sounds fun to me!
31
Misery (1990,  R)
Misery
Another SK movie that fights for the top slot. Kathy Bates must of been made for SK movies, she the best stalker ever! The cobbling scene oh snap!
32
The Mist (2007,  R)
The Mist
Pretty good overall, well acted and filmed. I get tired of religious people screaming quotes from the bible so some parts were a bit annoying, but over good suspense and story.
33
Needful Things (1993,  R)
Needful Things
I actually didn't like the movie the first time I watched it, but now I love it Max Von Sydow is just a creepy old man and is well casted in this temptation to evil movie.
34
The Night Flier (1998,  R)
The Night Flier
I don't remember this movie ever coming to the theater, but its a surprisingly good movie. Not amazing but well done overall, good little spooky night movie.
35
Pet Sematary (1989,  R)
Pet Sematary
Not too ruin it for you, but zombie children with scalpels scare the heck out me now, thank god there isn't too many of them around. One of the scarier SK movies made.
36
Quicksilver Highway (1997,  Unrated)
Quicksilver Highway
Horrible overall. Poor acting, bizarre in a bad way. Its bad when a giant set of wind up teeth is the best actor.
37
Riding the Bullet (2004,  R)
38
The Running Man (1987,  R)
The Running Man
I had no idea this was based on a SK novel. I never read the book, but love the movie and its cheesy over the top acting. Richard Dawson was a fun addition to this film.
39
Salem's Lot (1979,  PG)
40
Salem's Lot (2004,  PG-13)

43
The Shawshank Redemption (1994,  R)

The Shining (1980,  R)

Redrum! great Jack Nicholson film that put him on the map for a reason. Great portrayal of a man falling into madness.
45
Stephen King's The Shining (MINI-SERIES) (,  Unrated)
46
Silver Bullet (1985,  R)
Silver Bullet
One of my favorites, kinda cheesy when i watch it now, but I still love the story and characters. One of the few Corey Haim movies I truly enjoy.
47
Sleepwalkers (1992,  R)
Sleepwalkers
Has Alice Krige who plays the Borg Queen in it as a creepy controlling mom. Fun little suspenseful movie.
48
Sometimes They Come Back (1991,  R)
49
Sometimes They Come Back... Again (1996,  R)
50
Stand by Me (1986,  R)
Stand by Me
THis is probably my favorite SK movies. Just amazingly written and acted. One of the best coming of age movies ever.
51
Sometimes They Come Back for More (1999,  R)
52
Storm of the Century (1999,  PG-13)
Storm of the Century
Not too bad a SK movie. I don't remember it coming to the big screen, but I saw it late one night on some movie channel and liked it. Simple easy movie, great for an occassional insomniac like me.
53
Tales from the Darkside: The Movie (1990,  R)
54
Thinner (1996,  R)
Thinner
Surprisingly good movie. pretty well acted over all and decent story, fun twist.
55
The Tommyknockers (1993,  R)
The Tommyknockers
I actually don't remember the movie as well as I would like. I just remember Traci Lords being in it and finding out she was a porn star. Remember enjoying it overall.
56
Trucks (1997,  R)
57
The Woman in the Room (Stephen King's The Woman in the Room) (1983,  Unrated)
58
1408 (2007,  PG-13)
1408
I love John Cusak in this movie, does his usual great job as a novelist and debunker of haunted of houses. He secretly yearns for the possibilty of an afterlife so that he might know that his son is still somewhere after his death. He's led to Suite 1408 of a grand hotel, managed by one of my other favorite actors Samuel L Jackson, though he only plays a small part he's perfectly casted in this role. Of course Cusak gets the night of his life or maybe death in 1408.
