GoodFellas
Scorsese's tour de force in the mafia world, it's one of the most powerful pieces to deconstruct the American dream.

One of the best screenplays in recent cinema, consolidates Tarantino as one of the greatest talents of American cinema today.
3
Schindler's List (1993,  R)
Schindler's List
Spielberg's coming of age marks teh beginning of the fetichization of the Holocaust. That, however, does not diminish the power of this masterpiece.
4
Unforgiven (1992,  R)
Unforgiven
Eastwood's best movie. He was the only who could deconstruct western using the genre's own rules.
5
Boogie Nights (1997,  R)
Boogie Nights
Paul Thomas Anderson's direction is so vigorous that it resembles the best moments of RAGING BULL and CITIZEN KANE.
6
The Shawshank Redemption (1994,  R)
The Shawshank Redemption
What's the mystery behind the success of this movie? For years it was perhaps the best movie I'd seen, and I still love it. The point is that its story-telling is so honest and the actors are so engaged in doing their best, that we do not watch a movie, we FEEL and LIVE with those guys. Amazing.
7
Todo Sobre Mi Madre (All About My Mother) (1999,  R)
Todo Sobre Mi Madre (All About My Mother)
Maybe no other filmmaker today has a sequence of brilliant movies done in a row as Almodovar - this picture, however, remains his best work.

Three Colors: Red (Trois couleurs: Rouge) (1994,  R)
Three Colors: Red (Trois couleurs: Rouge)
Kieszlowski's postmodern ending of the TROIS COLEUS trilogy is also one the most clever screenplay's of recent years. And how can I get started on the cinematography?
9
The Truman Show (1998,  PG)
The Truman Show
Andrew Niccol's script is the reflection of a generation and no other film captured better the notion of culture and society at the end of the 90's
10
American Beauty (1999,  R)
American Beauty
Many movies tried, but this is the most competent criticism on the American way of life.
