1
The Awful Truth (1937,  Unrated)
The Awful Truth
Typical 30's romance comedy with a good match for Grant, Irene Dunne! Witty script. Higher caliper corn thanks to Irene Dunn.
2
Gunga Din (1939,  Unrated)
Gunga Din
Big budget action buddy film from RKO studios and three of it's biggest stars. This film is lots of fun especially when comparing with the genre today.
3
Only Angels Have Wings (1939,  Unrated)
Only Angels Have Wings
One of the things that made Cary Grant films so good was the leading lady. He worked with the best. This picture featured two, Jean Arthur and Rita Hayworth.
4
In Name Only (1939,  Unrated)
In Name Only
Grant films were truly fo an adult nature for the times. The stories behind the fims were often dealt with complex and some shocking issues. It's interesting how these films have kept their appeal even today.
5
Penny Serenade (1941,  Unrated)
Penny Serenade
A break from romantic follies which called for serious acting talents. Cary Grant is paired with Irene Dunne yet again! They go together well but seem to have forgotten it in theis film.
6
Suspicion (1941,  Unrated)
Suspicion
Grant's first film with Alfred Hitchcock. Probably the best man for the role and Hitchcock was very aware of this. This film is a great example of the genius of the two together. I should mention Joan Fontaine as his leading lady, another great complement and match for Grant.
7
Arsenic and Old Lace (1944,  Unrated)
Arsenic and Old Lace
This film is a collaboration with Frank Capra. I wish there were more because it doesn't disappoint. Great story and script. Lots of fun and something a little different from director Frank Capra. Somewhat bizarre for it's time but nothing Grant couldn't handle and he does it so well.
8
Notorious (1946,  Unrated)
Notorious
Another Hitchcock collaboration that delivers a great film. This one pairs Grant with Igrid Bergman
9
The Bachelor and the Bobby Soxer (1947,  Unrated)
The Bachelor and the Bobby Soxer
This film pairs Cary Grant with Myrna Loy and Shirley Temple. Again there are 'tabu' ideals and adult subject matter for the time in this - comedy. Perhaps it had to be a comedy for the time but the underlying stories are very serious.
10
The Bishop's Wife (1947,  Unrated)
The Bishop's Wife
A classic Christmas movie along with 'It's A Wonderful Life', 'Christmas In Connecticut', 'Holiday Inn' and others that Christmas would not seem like Christmas without. This one also features Loretta Young as the leading lady but the wife of David Niven. No 'monkey business' here however as Grant plays an angle.
11
Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House (1948,  Unrated)
Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House
Grant is again paired with Myrna Loy in this film which was later remade as 'The Money Pit' with Tom Hanks. I love the remake but if I had to choose, I'll take the original.
12
I Was a Male War Bride (1949,  Unrated)
I Was a Male War Bride
This film is simply a lot of fun! One of the great things about Grant and his roles was that the leading man could be handsome, serious, and a total goof!
13
People Will Talk (1951,  Unrated)
People Will Talk
This film pairs Grant with Jeanne Crain. Yet another 'adult theme' of the time that Grant's trustworthy style or personality he always seems to project makes him perfect for the role. It is probably what he was often chosen for such roles. Anyone elase would have been too innocent or too corrupt to make the story 'acceptable'.
14
Monkey Business (1952,  Unrated)
Monkey Business
Always think of Fred Astair when thinking of Ginger Rogers? Think again! She was great on her own and a perfect match with Cary Grant. One word describes the nature of their character. Distinguished! It's amazing that these two didn't clash but worked so well together.
15
To Catch a Thief (1955,  Unrated)
To Catch a Thief
Another Hitchcock collaboration. Grant, again, perfect for the role! This film pairs him with Grace Kelly. soon to be Princess Grace.
16
An Affair to Remember (1957,  Unrated)
An Affair to Remember
A classic Love story with Deborah Kerr as his 'love interest'.
17
Indiscreet (1958,  PG)
Indiscreet
Ingrid Bergman returns as leading lady in this play turned film adaptation with a screenplay fortunate fortunate to have bee n written byy the original author. Norman Krasna, whose creadits include 'White Christmas' and 'The Devil And Miss Jones'.
18
Houseboat (1958,  Unrated)
Houseboat
Very funny film with a much younger Sophia Loren, This was their second film together but much better than the first.
19
North by Northwest (1959,  Unrated)
20
Charade (1963,  G)
21
Father Goose (1964,  Unrated)
Father Goose
My favorite Cary Grant movie of all time. Very underrated and very entertaining. As somewhat of a different role or character, It proved Crant's acting abilities. In one scene, he 'flips of' someone. That's right! Gives them the finger! I think he sparked the rebellious nature of the 60's with that gesture in this 1964 film.
22
Walk, Don't Run (1966,  Unrated)
Walk, Don't Run
It said that when asked why he quit making movies, Cary Grant said that he though he was too old to be the leading man and that his fans wouldn't accet anything else. I think it's too bad because I believe he would have delivered his best acting had he continued. Perhaps he avoided being exploited however. I found myself wanting more from Cary Grant following his real life exploits through the tabloids until his death in 1986 at age 82. But, it's better to appreciate what was than regret what was not. Cary Grant was great and a true gift to cinema.
