Die Hard (1988,  R)
Die Hard
The Greatest action movie of all time? Yes. It sees Bruce Willis in his finest role as the iconic unwilling action hero John McClane and the character is accompanied by some of the best damn action we've ever seen. And I don't think there's a better all round action film out there

Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991,  R)
Terminator 2: Judgment Day
T2, well what can I say it is amazing and immense & all but I felt this was more designed for slightly younger audiences. I mean thats not to say It's not brilliant but the FX and slightly less violence for me made it less of a ride. The T-8000 is also brilliant in this, the idea of liquid metal is so cool but to be totally honest I thought they made the liquid effects sort of like sttuff they use in TV but no doubt the effects in the final scene are worth a look.
3
Aliens (1986,  R)
Aliens
When you sat in the cinema and Ridley Scott sat behind you giving you a massage and breaking the odd bone, James Cameron whacks you with a baseball bat and steals your seat. Thats not to say that Aliens is dumb, but has a lot more upfront action and oh yeah the actual creature is this big fuck-off hellbeast rather than the lurking predator from the original.
4
Planet Terror (Grindhouse Presents: Robert Rodriguez's Planet Terror) (2007,  R)
5
Kill Bill: Volume 1 (2003,  R)
Kill Bill: Volume 1

Pirates of the Caribbean - The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003,  PG-13)
Pirates of the Caribbean - The Curse of the Black Pearl
The greatest non-animated disney movie of all time
7
Batman Begins (2005,  PG-13)
Batman Begins
Director Christopher Nolan took this almost dead franchise and blew a breath of fresh air into it. It just flew in out of nowhere and blew everyone away as far as how much better it was than anyone thought a Batman film could be again. The choice to cast one of the best actors working today, Christian Bale, as the dark knight was pure genius and it doesn't hurt that we have the likes of Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman, Cillian Murphy, and Michael Caine supporting him. This will always be remembered as the film that effectively saved this much loved character's life.

The Warriors (1979,  R)
The Warriors
Wow, I haven't been this amazed in a very long time. Where was I living all this time that not once did I hear anything about this movie. "The Warriors" is one of the best moves of the 70's and it definitely deserves more recognition than it apparently has. There isn't a single thing in this movie that disappoints, on the contrary, everything in it is brilliant. The acting, the very cool costumes, the amazing photography, the great adrenaline music, the fight sequences, the minimalistic plot, and of course the memorable one liners. From the moment it starts "The Warriors" just never loses its fast pace and we're not able to rest until the end. There are very few movies I wish would have last longer, there are even fewer that ended perfectly and "The Warriors" is one of them. If people though "Taxi Driver" was controversial they probably didn't see this movie. Cop bashing, interracial skinhead gangs, pretty girls that put out on every other corner; man, I'm not the least bit surprised that people wanted to imitate the Warriors. I felt like it today and I thought I was past that faze. All the praise to Walter Hill for helping make one of the best movies I've ever seen. The photography, that can only be surpassed by individuals the kinds of Kubrick and the shere minimalism of just about everything, even the deserted streets of New York, have never been more powerful. This is cult at its best.

This was a brilliant piece of cinema, no matter which way you look at it. If you're looking from the moraly rich angle, you'll find there is substance to this movie. It is hard to watch the final death roar of Leonidas, just before he's peppered by a million plus arrows, and not feel the emotion involved. If you want the testosterone fueled experience of blood, guts and and a whole lotta muscle, you won't find much better than this. Gerard Butler is great as the Spartan King and is fully convincing in his role. While there isn't much in the line of character development, what do you expect?! If the history of the Spartans is anything to go by, they would have been merciless killing machines anyway, without emotion during battle. Yet even so, we catch a glimpse of character change here and there during the movie, though this is usually covered up by the character soon after. All in all, this movie is really quite good, and is an achievement to be proud of for director Zak Snyder

Sin City (2005,  R)
Sin City
Forget Chaucer ? this Miller?s tale is black and white but blood-red all over, as his bone-crunching, boner-inducing, morally bankrupt hyper-noir universe is realised like a comic book at 24fps.
16
Batman (1989,  PG-13)
Batman
Tim Burtons 1989 take on the Dark Knight is an amazing gothic comic brought to life. His visual flair is truly gob-smacking, as his sets drip feed the menace of the later additions to the comic book. Keaton also is a great caped crusdaer, bringing a perfect balance of damaged goods and light heated humor. But this is Nicholson's movie and he is just amazing as the Joker, and steals every scene. Basinger is a little light weight as the love interest Vicky Vale.
But the films real problem lies with a messy script that makes little or no sense, but what would anybody expect when a film goes into production when the script is not completed. The story for what it is is a matter of ideas splashed across the page, and hopefully some stick, but most don't. This fault with the story does not spoil the fun, as there is so much to enjoy in this dark brooding gothic adaption, and although the film cannot stand up to the brilliant Batman Begins or the sequel The Dark Knight, in scope, story or scale, it still is brilliant fun, and far, far superior to the poor Batman Forever and the pathetic train wreck of Batman and Robin.
