Francois Ozon tries his hand at reverse chronology and does an excellent job of capturing the subtle nuances of human behavior and emotion. An outstanding cast and wonderful soundtrack complete the picture.

Vidocq (Dark Portals: The Chronicles of Vidocq)
At first I thought this was Sherlock Holmes meets V for Vendetta but it's more like Sherlock Holmes meets the Matrix devil. This movie was fantastic - great plot, great fight scenes and a great twist.

Open Your Eyes (Abre los ojos) (Permanent Midnight)
Great movie and not at all like I expected; sort of Donnie Darko-like; makes me want to see the Americanized remake - Vanilla Sky

Nobody Knows (Dare mo shiranai) (2004,  PG-13)
Nobody Knows (Dare mo shiranai)
This is not the type of film to watch again and again. It is long and plodding. But it does so with a purpose - to tell the story of four amazing kids' hardships and hopes. It is sad in a way that slowly saps the strength from you - just as it does to the kids' lives. A powerful picture.

¡Átame! (Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!) (1990,  NC-17)
¡Átame! (Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!)
Funny, in a demented sort of way. Featuring one of the most classic nude scenes in cinema history. Great ending. The movie that inspired Penelope Cruz to become an actress.

Turks Fruit (Turkish Delight) (The Sensualist) (Wild Intent)
a man who has little regard for anything falls in love - this movie is gritty, sex-charged, and full of symbolism; from the man who brought you Basic Instinct

A Very Long Engagement (Un long dimanche de fiançailles) (2004,  R)
33
Man cheng jin dai huang jin jia (Curse of the Golden Flower) (2006,  R)
