The films which are always close to be in My favorites list
Those which were out, just by a little, so I consider them wonderful too. No special order (but as in My favorites, the last ones are based on books, for children, etc...). Also films that could be my favorites, but I couldn´t see them complete, so I can not valorate them in a perfect way.

Metropolis (1927, Unrated)
Although it is a difficult movie to follow, as it´s a silent movie, the visual work is fantastic, and the story is scarely modern, in a distopic and unpleasant future that is closest to the present times that we would like. This is one of the movies -if I were a director- that I would like to make a new version, to take the best of the original and improve it even more. |

Sweet November (2001, PG-13)
I must confess that before watching the film I thought it was going to be just a romantic comedy or drama, so cute that I will throw up of so "pink" and wonderful love... However, the great character they have chosen to the role of Charlize Theron -a lovely, original, excentric, helping woman, such an Amelie but a little more realistic and less French, with very original neighbours-, and the transformation she produces on Keanu Reeves, makes it a very interesting film to watch. You could say the end is previsible (well, at least in Spain the trailer suggested it very clear) and easy, but you are going to be so in love with the femenine character (not as plain as the usuals in romance movies), that you won´t be able to be indiferent about it. |

I think it´s the only remake (as soon as I´m corcerned) that is included as one of my favorite movies. I think the good trick was to preserve the tension of the original, but changed the trama, maintained the cruelty of some characters, and increased it for others (the wife, for example, gained in depth). However, it´s a pity that the policeman character looses a lot. As good as the original, could not say which is better. |

The Reader (2008, R)
It´s a good adaptation from a good book, but of course, it can not achieve the complexity of the inner thinking of the characters. Daldry tries to develop a story from the memory, and it gets someway, but, of course, not as well as the book. Talking about Kate Winslet, it´s difficult to play a role that, in the book, is always refered to in third person, and make in "in first person", and again, difficult without knowing all what is going on through the minds of the characters. However, she does as good as it was possible, although maybe to be such a famous actress make us less credible (it could have been better with an unknown one). Refering to more concrete aspecs, I didn´t remember Hanna to be so authoritative, maybe a little less. Anyway, as a said, a good adaptation, but from an even better book. |

Mutluluk (Bliss) (2009, Unrated)
Next time, I will see it in Spanish, not in Turkish. That way, maybe I will like it even more. Well, seriously, I watched it in Turkish!, so I can not make a great appreciation from the film. It didn´t seemed to me a wonderful one (but as I said, I could not understand the dialogs, just to deduce it, however, I think I and my ex-girlfriend did it quite well), but I assign 3 stars because it had a few powerful scenes, and because it treats about a very intense item in a country where is particullarly important to fight against these kind of costums. The plot is about a woman which is raped, so his husbands ask someone in the village to kill her because she has lost her honour. However, he is not able to do it, and escapes with the girl to the city. There, they will try to get a new life, finding interesting people, but danger continues being close to them... |

Cat People (1982, R)
You could say it´s only a good excuse to have N. Kinski on the screen... Well, not bad objective, after all. Indepently of this, they take the idea of the original film (not bad), and they create a good-pulse thriller with erotic reminiscences. The great problem of the idea -as it happened in the original- is that, although it´s interesting to know about a particular species of cat-people and how they live (in this version they develop a little more the history of cat people) , they focus too much in the sexual aspect, what could make the film a little ludicrous in some moments (as I said, it sometines seems more a excuse than a film). |

Light comedy with a wonderful message of understanding among cultures. A pity it has not developed more the comic part (although is funny), and also falls a little too much in told-before-story-lines: with just a little effort, it would have been an unforgettable film. I got in love with the peruan group, they´re so lovely! |

It was a necessary film after Vietnam war, and because of that, almost forbidden by censorship. Good direction work of a master, and very good scenes that went into cinema story (Ride of Valkirie among them). However, it sometimes looks, more than a tribuite to Heart of Darkness, quite a sort of plagiarism. |
