The Other Boleyn Girl (2008, PG-13)
Excellent, a wonderful epic movie. This movie not only taught us a little bit about english history, but it was entertaining. For once an epic movie had justified use of the English accent, and the cast, the dialogue and everything else were wonderful. Acting was flawless, which made this movie flawless, couldn't have been improved upon. Natalie Portman plays the manipulative, power hungry Ann Boleyn who wants to become Queen of England. Even if it means destroying a family(and creating some powerful enemies[for not only her but all of England]Italy, and Spain), a country and a way of life, Ann will stop at nothing, stepping on her own siblings for her own gain. Ann gets more than she expected, and is a testiment to the saying "be careful what you wish for" |

Braveheart (1995, R)
One of the best movies ever made. Mel Gibson directs this story that tells the story of the Scots, and their troubles with the British Dominion. True enough not 100% accurate, this movie is wonderful, and so wonderfully touching. Gibsons speach to the Scottish rebellion set a precendent for every military epic movie to come, Troy, Alexander, 300, and even Elizabeth: The Golden age. Each one those flicks used a shouting, cage rattling message to get the troops "Pumped". Excellent. |

Elizabeth (1998, R)
The first in a great line of movies. Kate gives a wonderful performance, as the "bastard Queen" She takes you through the trials and tribulations of Elizabeth, a woman who would be the first child born out of Divorce, a cause for Englands seperations with the Catholic church. One watches as an intelligent, yet uncertain, bashful Queen becomes a more confident, decisive ruler. Blanchette is wonderful, and gives a believable performance. |

Elizabeth: The Golden Age (2007, PG-13)
Good movie, I knew the outcome, but I wanted the spanish to win! :-p Blanchette takes us on the second half of Elizabeths life. It seems there is no rest for a heirless Ruler of Questionable legitimacy. Movie deals with Elizabeth Queen of Englands quarrels with Mary Stuart Queen of Scotts, Phillip King of Spain, and what she thought could have been the demise of her crown and her beloved England at the hands and ores, of the Spanish and their Armada. One can feel the intensity of almost imperative doom. Excellent performances by all. |

Marie Antoinette (2006, PG-13)
Though it does not depict the actual goings on after the revolution, including the her execution, this movie is entertaining. Kirsten is a good actress, but I think it would have been much more fulfilling had the cast tried to imitate a Parisian accent, and Kirsten could've tried to done an Austrian one. The use of modern music wasn't warranted, should have been more traditional. These small short comings would have drastically improved this epic. One does not know if the director was trying to make a teen/chick flick. Almost undramatic. |
