"Ringu" was wonderful, and "Ringu 2" was even better. I'm curious as to how it all began.

The Eye (Gin gwai) (2002,  R)
The Eye (Gin gwai)
It had a very interesting premise, and it was very well made considering the small budget. But unfortunately, once it reaches it's climax, it starts to run out of steam.

Reincarnation (Rinne) (,  R)

Ju-on: The Grudge (Ju-on 3) (2003,  R)

Entrails of the Virgin
I have a thing for J-Horror, but this looks downright repulsive...and the title sounds like a Cannibal Corpse song...looks like a horror movie I might watch out of curiosity's sake, but it doesn't look like it'll be something I enjoy...
10
Ju Rei:Uncanny (2004,  Unrated)

Audition (Ôdishon) (1999,  R)
Audition (Ôdishon)
Two reasons I simply must see this:

1. I less-than-three J-Horror
2. It's cited among horror aficionados as a true classic. Not just a J-Horror classic, but a horror classic...period...
12
Pulse (Kairo) (2005,  Unrated)
Pulse (Kairo)
It drags a bit in parts, but as far as being an atmospheric and genuinely creepy horror flick, it succeeds. It's up there with Ringu and Ju-On.
13
Dark Water (2002,  PG-13)

Shutter (They Are Around Us) (2004,  R)
Shutter (They Are Around Us)
Every time an American J-Horror/Asian horror remake comes out, it just makes me want to see the original.

Chakushin Ari (One Missed Call) (2003,  R)
Chakushin Ari (One Missed Call)
The remake looks dumb, and that usually means the original is wonderful. I have a soft spot for J-Horror, and this looks like an interesting one.

Janghwa, Hongryeon (A Tale of Two Sisters)
I guess pigeon holing this as J-Horror would be racist, considering it's from Korea. I don't care what it is, though. I still really wanna see it.

Ryeong (The Ghost) (Dead Friend) (2004,  Unrated)
Ryeong (The Ghost) (Dead Friend)
It's a J-Horror. Of course I wanna see it!

Vampire Hunter D (Banpaia hantâ D) (1985,  Unrated)
Vampire Hunter D (Banpaia hantâ D)
Interesting from a historical standpoint, as far as animation in general is concerned. But that's about the only praise I have for it. The story is shallow, even when compared to the novel it's based on (a fun read, but 'tweren't what I'd call great literature). The design is ugly, the animation is crude, and the voice acting on both coasts is abysmal. Fans of '80s anime TV might get a kick out of it, but for people who want the polish of films like Akira or Ghost in the Shell, this is one to avoid. It's sequel of the same name*, on the other hand, is worth checking out.

*Note: In the United States, the second film is referred to as Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust.

Vampire Hunter D - Bloodlust
A beautiful horror romance, if a bit uneven at times, that tops it's predecessor in every way...

Sei mong se jun (Ab-normal Beauty)
I always thought that if I was ever in the mood for a fantastic horror movie, east Asian filmmakers would never disappoint.

Oxide Pang has disproved that assumption with this convoluted mess of a movie. Sure, it's beautifully shot, and the music is excellent. But the sparse threads of plot that do exist in this movie aimlessly meander in search of a point without reaching it. I don't mind style over substance, but style without substance is just plain boring.

Sick Nurses (Suay Laak Sai)
It's like And Then There Were None meets Ju-On: The Grudge as directed by Quentin Tarantino.

Considering that it's a horror movie, I guess the fact that the scares are few and far between is kind of a drawback. Still, a surprisingly sexy antagonist toy around with the lives of a bunch of vain nurses and the pig of a doctor they work for is surprisingly fun to watch.

File Sick Nurses under "Guilty Pleasures".
