The animated segments are 10/10 material but unfortunately there's only a tiny amount of animation present. Another Brick in the Wall is also excellent, but the rest of the film is just bland and pointless.

It's not THAT bad. Really mind-boggling trying to figure out who their intended audience was though, it's like a family film but full of sex jokes.

It's like if David Cronenberg had directed Thankyou for Smoking. But, not quite that awesome.

Kinda cool, but not quite funny enough. Worth seeing though.

Futurama: Bender's Big Score was hardly funny at all. However, it's plot was absolutely fantastic and the amounts of emotion it reached is worthy of recognition alone. Futurama: The Beast With a Billion Backs is hilarious. Not quite as funny as the show was, but it's certainly close enough so that I don't care. However, it suffers in the plot department. There's nothing wrong with the plot, infact it's charmingly and bizarrely quirky, however, it doesn't feel like a movie-quality plot-line and it also feels much more disjointed than the first film. Whilst the first film could very clearly work as 4 to-be-continued episodes, it also worked fairly flawlessly as a movie. This film never feels like anything but 4 back to back episodes. However, it's still furiously entertaining and who cares if it's not important to the overall Futurama plotline. Only a small handful of the show's episodes actually are and this is 1 of 4 films.
It's not quite as good a film as Bender's Big Score, but it's WAY funnier. Hopefully the next 2 films will be this funny with a plot as good as Bender's Big Score, but we'll have to wait and see.

Very heavy, but brilliant all the same.

Simply put, this film is an absolute triumph. This is quite easily Tim Burton's 2nd best to date after Ed Wood (keep in mind that he didn't direct The Nightmare Before Christmas).
Musicals are incredibly hard to adapt into film. You have to keep the visuals interesting as people have long drawn out conversations through song. On stage, we're happy to sit and look at people singing for 10 minutes at a time, but on screen it's a different story.
The cinematography is amazing. Whilst alot of CGI has obviously been utilised, it gives the film that Tim Burton quality we all know and either love or hate. Personally, I love it.
The performances are uniformly outstanding (although my favourite has to be Sacha Baron Cohen's). Whilst none of them are particularly amazing singers, Tim Burton has filled the film with fantastic actors. Broadway actors can sing great, but few are that great at acting and fewer are this good at acting whilst they sing. And rest assured, Johnny Depp is nothing like Jack Sparrow in this.
The music itself is very forgettable and barely stands out, but that's the beauty of it. I honestly fell in love with the score because it doesn't try and be catchy or be good music. It exists purely to serve the purpose of the storyline and in doing so it never goes off-track with a 'show-stopper' or random little melody thrown in just to soudn nice. It's 100% focused on the emotions and scene at hand. It's almost a refreshing take on musicals in general.
All the other technical aspects such as costumes and lighting are faultless too.
I also have to credit Tim Burton for not watering down the violent nature of Sweeney Todd in the slightest. Whilst I wasn't too keen on how he'd gone and cast all of his best friends in roles that already belonged to many stage actors, I now see that this was the best way to do things. In order to make this work as a film, Tim had to make it HIS film and he's created what is possibly a masterpiece amongst musicals. Certainly one of the best musicals of all time and one of the best films in a long while. I'm sure plenty of die-hard fans of the stage-show will hate it for cutting songs and editing bits and casting not being to their tastes, but when viewed in it's own right, this film is nearly perfect.
It looked like Tim Burton was losing it slightly with his films quality dropping slightly in recent years, but he's back on form, possibly even better than ever? I eagerly await both Frankenweenie and Alice in Wonderland.

I was laughing my head off for the first 5 minutes, then it just got old. However, a few moments here and there kept it worth seeing.

This is a film realisation of the stereotype of adolescence, well, male adolescence. And if you take it as such, it's really very enjoyable. Guns, gore, naked women with huge boobs and as the title suggest, heavy metal, it's all here.
The first segment is like a blue-print for The 5th Element and even Bladerunner to an extent. I'm almost certain they drew some inspiration from it. Other segments vary in quality. My favourite was the one featuring zombies on a plane during World War II.
The wrap around is confusing and utterly cheesey, but in a film like this, you really can't complain.
The music is suprisingly good, the heavy metal music isn't really over-emphasised at all and the actual score is suprisingly majestic.
The animation is also (though dated), top notch.
This is really worth checking out, just for it's cult quality and it's obvious influence on the world of animation and sci-fi.

I really expected the worst from this. I thought the concept of zombies living among us who are just like us, but decomposing was stupid as what's the point in zombies if they're not a bit different. Flesh eating provides horror for example.
However, this only caused me to be very pleasantly suprised by how a horror film is sneekiliy popped in to the back half of this movie.
It's just a shame that it end's abruptly. This could have made for quite a nice 'start of the zombie apocalypse' type movie had they cut half of the start off (mostly un-needed) and skipped on allowing more time for the 'new world order'.
The ending is really what lets this film down. With a more wrapped up ending or something bigger happening, then this would have got 7/10, but alas, I guess they didn't have the budget.
It's mildly funny and quite creepy at times, but purely as a high-concept exploration of race as well as racial documentaries, it's a huge success.

I don't think I will ever understand why this film is as hated as it is. It's not incredibly by any standards, but I will defend it to the end of the Earth as at least a mildly good film.
It's a pitch-perfect (most of the time) parody of action films with Arnie mocking himself. But it also works as a family film for kids and such.
It's a little all over the place, but very fun and gets the action stuff right down to the last detail.

This is the funniest film to be released in ages. It's a pitch-perfect parody of Hollywood. The fake movie trailers as well as scenes from the film within the film are absolutely spot-on, as are the takes on actors that we see. It's remarkable for that reason and is actually a hell of a lot smarter than it needs to be.
This completely dwarves Pineapple Express as it's not only a better comedy, but a better action film.
The cast are all-round fantastic, especially Robert Downey Jr who is just brilliant as usual.
It's nice that almost every role in the film, big or small is a famous face. It means you can star-spot throughout the film.
Plus it's suprisingly well shot and the music is suprisingly good. I guess it had to be to get the war-movie parody thing right.
All in all, it's good stuff. Ben Stiller is really growing as both a director and writer.

This film was a prank. Basically, it's a mockumentary, but they didn't tell the New Zealand public that, and it's so pitch-perfect that they mostly believed it to be the truth. As a prank, it's perfection.
However as a film, it's less good.
At first I thought, why make a mockumentary which isn't funny (spare for some extremely light humour here and there). However, the film tells a story. It's simply an unusual method being used to tell a fictional story and when viewed as such, it's actually quite a good watch.
It's probably my least favourite of Peter Jackson's movies, but hey, now I can say I've seen them all.

As far as the slasher films of the 70s and 80s go, this is one of the most inventive. To the point that it's arguably not a slasher film.
There's some fantastic special effects work, or at least fantastic special effects for gore. The plot is very simple when you look at it on paper, but that's why it works.
I was suprised to find out that Pinhead is such a minor character in the whole thing. He's not even the villain, really. I get the impression that he becomes the main villain in the sequels though.
Anyway, it's one of the better horror efforts of the 80s.
