El Orfanato (The Orphanage) (2007,  R)
El Orfanato (The Orphanage) 5.0 Stars
I loved this movie! It's really terrifying. I loved how the director created such a horrifying mood in the story. Great suspense. Plenty of jumpy scenes. The story was very clever and well told. I was hoping there would be English dubbing, but I was ok with the Spanish dub and English subtitles. I loved the symbolism, the games, and setting (the house was creepy). The acting was very believable and Oscar-worthy (especially the amazing Belen Rueda). It kept me at the edge of my seat- I mean couch- the entire time. I was screaming near the end. The ending? You just got to see for yourself!

Signs (2002,  PG-13)
Signs 5.0 Stars
One of Shyamalan's best! It's one of the best if-this-happens movies! I remember the first time I saw it, I was a beginner at watching scary films. But when I first saw the alien on the TV, the hair on the back of my neck stood up, I became so terrified I could hear my heartbeat ! But near the end, I got over my fear, but I still couldn't sleep that night! lol. Really inspiring (the whole coincidence vs miracle theme). Abigail Breslin was so adorable and Rory Culkin makes an asthma attack look cute. Mel Gibson and Joaquin Pheonix were great as brothers!

Taste of Tea, The (Cha No Aji) (2007,  Unrated)
Taste of Tea, The (Cha No Aji) 4.5 Stars
Out of all the new released movies on the racks in Potomac Video, this movie was the only one that caught my eye and the only one I actually picked up to read the back summary. It's brilliant! It may be a little slow paced for impatient viewers but I didn't mind at at. I loved the Harunos. Ayano and Grandpa were hilarious. Sachiko was so adorable. Very nicely done. Perfect music. Absolutely loved it.

I love this movie! One of the Thailand's best! Very original. It may not be scary-scary but very creepy. The mood is nicely terrifying. Good acting by Angelica Lee. I think she did better than Jessica Alba (no offense, Alba-fans).

Uzumaki (,  G)
Uzumaki 3.5 Stars
Not so scary but strangely horrifying. Very very original. I mean, who's ever been obsessed with uzumaki's (vortexes)?? or ever committed suicide by putting himself in a washingmachine? The acting isn't the best and Shuichi could have been better looking. Nice setting. Memorable. :)

Gooood. It makes me think about what "cures" people would discover nowadays. Who knew the "cure" for cancer was gonna kill 99% of the world's population? Creepy "darkseekers", they made me jump. Will Smith was great. <3 this movie.

Hmmm...I gotta say..I've never seen any movie like this one. It's so magical and visually stunning. It's got many different innovative and unusual characters. Valentine is both mysterious (mask on)and cute (mask off). I love the name Helena and her drawings. A must-see.

Cloverfield (2008,  PG-13)
Cloverfield 3.5 Stars
I first saw its trailer when I watched Transformers in theatres. I was like oh crap what was that? I did some research prior to the movie's release in theatres and found many different theories. Some thought it was a return of Godzilla (which I thought is stupid cuz I'm tired of Godzilla), others thought it was a giant robot fighting a monster, some even thought it was a Halo movie (now that would be interesting). The beheading of Statue of Liberty got me thinking that it's something BIG.
I rented the movie. I liked it. The whole camera view was kinda annoying. What's also annoying (yet reasonable) was that the characters kept saying "Oh my God" every few seconds throughout the movie. I loved Hud, he was funny. Some deaths are kinda disturbing. I didn't like the ending...

Bella 4.5 Stars
This was very truly moving. I watched it 2x and still made me tear-eyed 2x. It's got good plot and story telling. The flashforwards/flashbacks made a great effect. The music was beautiful. Eduardo Verįstegui and Tammy Blanchard had a great chemistry and acted so well. The little girls were adorable. Nice symbolism and object significance. It had some funny parts to it too.
