Payback (1999, R)
An often overlooked film with an all star cast about a tale of revenge. Mel has to deal with con artists, bent cops, organised crime bosses and Lucy Liu as a domanatrix to get revenge on those who double crossed him. Quite violent at times but a cracking film. You'll like it if you enjoyed A history of violence or Running scared. |

The Beach (2000, R)
A pretty good thriller as a young backpacker travelling through Thailand learns of a secret island and amazing beach in paradise. However there are soon many moral and other problems between the group. Quite a strange film at times, and the location looks great. The later half of the film is full of tension as things go from bad to worse. |

Premonition (2007, PG-13)
A good film some may find hard to follow, due to different timelines. However it makes for a pretty good thriller and although it didn't end as expected, it probably made the film better for being different. |

| 102 |
Fracture (2007, R) |
|
| 103 |
Zodiac (2007, R) |
|
| 104 |
Sunshine (2007, R)
A pretty good film, a sort of space disaster/thriller film as a crew set off for the Sun to drop a nuclear payload to kickstart it back to life and get Earth out of an Ice age. They are the 2nd team to set off, will they make it or suffer the fate off the 1st missing crew? |
|
| 105 |
Eastern Promises (2007, R)
This is very similar to A Histroy of Violence with the same director (David Cronenberg) and Viggo Mortensen teaming up again. It is just as violent and possibly more bloody and graphic. The acting is of a very good standard and although it is a bit slow at times you are likely to be engrossed in the story too much to notice. |
|
| 106 |
The Illusionist (2006, PG-13) |
|
| 107 |
Firewall (2006, PG-13) |
|
| 108 |
One Hour Photo (2002, R)
A good thriller with a great performance by Robin Williams showing he can do more than funny voices! He plays the role of a strange, creepy photo developer who makes up for his lack of family and friends by thinking of himself as an uncle to a family whose photo's he develops. Quite a strange film with a bit of a twist. |
|
| 109 |
The Number 23 (2007, R) |
|
| 110 |
When a Stranger Calls (2006, PG-13) |
|
| 111 |
Breakdown (1997, R) |
|
| 112 |
Disturbia (2007, PG-13)
This is a very cool, very good thriller. It's a bit like a modern day remake of Rear Window but with plenty of comic moments as well that it is also a bit like The 'Burbs, The girl next door. Overall a very enjoyable thriller and the pace really picks up towards the end with a few good "red herrings" along the way! |
|
| 113 |
Copycat (1995, R) |
|
| 114 |
Detox (D-Tox) (, R) |
|
| 115 |
Mindhunters (2005, R)
This is a very good little know film. It's a mix of cat and mouse thriller with the FBI trying to track a killer at one of their training facilities. It starts as a thriller and soon becomes a horror as puzzles are put in the teams way similar to the traps in the Saw films. Along with an impressive cast and great setting this is worth hunting out. |
|
| 116 |
Basic Instinct 2 (2006, R) |
|
| 117 |
What Lies Beneath (2000, PG-13) |
|
| 118 |
Mr. Brooks (2007, R)
A great film about a top businessman who has a dark secret, he is addicted to killing people! Definitely not the normal run of the mill serial killer film. The acting is great and the story is very good with some new ideas on the theme. Overall not the usual cat and mouse thriller but a very good film! |
|
| 119 |
Joy Ride (Road Kill) (2001, R) |
|
| 120 |
Shattered (Butterfly on a Wheel) (2007, R)
A pretty decent thriller, although not surprised it was straight to DVD. Saying that it does have a strong well known cast but just has a low budget feel to it. It's watchable especially if you like any of the actors but just not as intense or gripping as better thrillers. Called Butterfly on a wheel in the UK. |
|
| 121 |
Disturbing Behavior (1998, R) |
|
| 122 |
Perfect Stranger (2007, R)
Surprised at some of the reviews I have seen for this? I thought this was a very good thriller with a very good twist, for once that you can't see coming right from the start of the film. Maybe it's a bit slow to start with but has one of the best endings for a thriller I've seen in recent years! Go check it out!! |
|
| 123 |
Red Rock West (1993, R) |
|
| 124 |
Ein unbekannter rechnet ab (Ten Little Indians)(And Then There Were None) (1974, PG)
One of the best Agatha Christie films to be made! Featuring an all star cast this is a timeless classic that has inspired many other films, Identity and House on Haunted hill spring to mind. If you like a good murder mystery or are a fan of Agatha Christie check this out, now known in the UK as And then there were none. |
|
| 125 |
Unknown (2006, Unrated)
A very good if short thriller about 5 guys who wake up in a warehouse with short term memory loss. They deduct that 2 of them are hostages and 3 are kidnappers, but who is who? |
|
| 126 |
Untraceable (2008, R) |
|
| 127 |
Awake (2007, R) |
|
| 128 |
The Watcher (2000, R) |
|
| 129 |
Cleaner (2008, R) |
|
| 130 |
The Eye (2008, PG-13)
I have to say I have not seen any of the Asian originals of The Eye....yet. So I can't really compare it to that as yet. It seemed to have mixed reviews when it came out, but on here it seems to have got mainly good reviews. |
|
| 131 |
El Orfanato (The Orphanage) (2007, R)
A great Spanish ghost story/thriller which I'm sure said it was directed by Guiilermo Del Toro? I saw the trailer and had to see this. It's very creepy at times, largely due to the spooky location. It's a very good story well told and directed. Reminded me of The Others, The 6th sense most of all, so if you like those you'll love this. |
|
| 132 |
Shelter Island (2003, R)
A low budget thriller with a few recognizable faces in it, especially Patsy Kensit for UK audiences. The film poster makes the film look more interesting than it is. I was expecting more of a killer loose on a remote island, but it's not like that. Although not an erotic thriller it had quite a lot of nudity, by body doubles any how. Predictable but kind of ok for a watch once. |
|
| 133 |
Pathology (2008, R) |
|
| 134 |
Fear (1996, R) |
|
| 135 |
Deception (2008, R)
An very good cast, a good idea but a poor-ish execution only make this an ok thriller. I had high hopes for a lot more but the title alone really gives any idea of a twist away right from the start which was annoying. Hugh Jackman was very good in his role I thought and there are some sexy appearances from Natasha Henstridge (Species, Ghost of Mars) and Maggie Q (Die Hard 4). However it is all too straight forward to work out if you have seen any decent thriller before. Ok for a look but nothing special, you might prefer Derailed instead. |
|
| 136 |
Femme Fatale (2002, R)
A pretty decent sultry thriller directed by Brian DePalma. A jewel thief tries to cover her past but a chance photo of her alerts the people she has crossed before. Enjoyable if not quite a classic but I do like the ending and Rebecca Romijn suits the role to a T before her success as Mystique in the X-Men series. |
|
| 137 |
Solstice (2007, PG-13) |
|
| 138 |
Single White Female (1992, R)
A very good sexy thriller which seems to have stood the test of time. A good story and idea for a thriller as a woman advertises for a flatmate. All seems well at first before the new resident starts to become more weird and threatening as time goes by. It has a good strong cast and it is a lot better than many recent thrillers that have tried to surpass it! |
|
| 139 |
The Pelican Brief (1993, PG-13) |
|
| 140 |
The Flock (2008, R)
For a straight to DVD film this is actually a pretty good thriller. Gere and Claire Danes give good performances about a tough subject matter. They monitor sex offenders in the community, when a teenage girl is kidnapped in the area their suspicions are raised. A bit slow at the start but the second half of the film is good cat and mouse stuff. Don't expect much of Avril Lavigne in this though, a one scene cameo is all you get from her in this. |
|
| 141 |
A Perfect Murder (1998, R) |
|
| 142 |
Play Misty for Me (1971, R) |
|
| 143 |
Lakeview Terrace (2008, PG-13)
A good thriller about a black racist cop who happens to be the neighbour from hell for a young inter-racial couple. It's an enjoyable film and the tension between the two lead characters is good as the incidents between them escalate throughout the film. It reaches a predictable conclusion in a bit of a rush towards the end, but it's still a worthy watch. |
|
| 144 |
Pacific Heights (1990, R) |
|
| 145 |
Slow Burn (2007, R)
A pretty decent crime thriller with a strong cast. Not a lot of action but I thought it was a good story with some decent plot twists. In some elements it is like the usual suspects in the way the story unfolds with quite a few red herrings along the way. An enjoyable film that seemed to slip under the radar. |
|
| 146 |
The Thomas Crown Affair (1999, R) |
|
| 147 |
Frantic (1988, R) |
|
| 148 |
The Invasion (2007, PG-13)
Another interpretation of Invasion of the body snatchers. This was an ok thriller, well made with a good cast. It just lacks any real punch, it's not tense, gripping or scary in any way. A missed opportunity really. I'd recommend The Faculty instead as that is a much more fun film, also influenced by the body snatchers. |
|
| 149 |
New Town Killers (2008, Unrated)
A pretty decent low budget Scottish film. The idea is similar to Hard target, but minus the martial arts and this time given an urban setting. Two young rich men hunt down the lower classes desperate for money in a game of hide and seek. The plot can be a bit odd at times but it's a entertaining watch. |
|
| 150 |
The International (2009, R)
I thought this was a good conspiracy action/ thriller with a good cast. It's a very entertaining film with a good plot, it's enjoyable watching all the plot lines unfold and the connections made to take them on to the next lead. The film is shot in many locations including New York, Milan, Turkey and almost has a slight Bond, Bourne ultimatum feel to it. The shoot out at the Guggenheim gallery in New York has been one of the best I've seen since Heat. A solid well made film that should appeal to action, thriller fans or fans of the similar films mentioned. |

Just looking at this list gives me the creeps. How do you get the nerve to see so many horror movies? LoL, I'm a chicken, but anyway, I think you have a lot of good movies on that list. I strongly agree with your comment on Premonition. I loved that movie.

A good list and still a handfull I've not yet watched - adding to my favourites, to work through
