ridley scott leisurely directs nic cage, in a great con caper, and in alison lohan a superb performance as his daughter, he never knew he had, and having to get her mixed up in his dealings with cons, and especially a con that hes working on, which will make him very rich, con really is the name of the game in this film, and along with sam rockwells charactor along for the ride, its hard to tell whos doing who, and not knowing how its going to go, is interesting to watch, and believe me, the outcome is not what youll expect, the whole film s handled well by scott, shot nicely, with some great moments, cage, plays his manic cage, with lots of quirks, which i know a lt of people dont like, but hes great, probely in my top 5 ridley scott films

remember spiderman 2 when doc oc attacks the surgeons trying to save him, sam raimi directed like he was back on the evil dead set, it was what we loved about raimi, well now hes back to doing that, no bruce campbell here, but alison lohman takes his place as a movie punchbag, playing a young bank assistant, who gets on the wrong side of a poor old gypsy women, who puts on her a curse, in which consists ofthree days of torment, then finallybeing dragged to hell, a frightening opening set in the past demonstrates this at work, and sets up well whats in store, as the torment starts, lohman is tossed punched, thrown up on, and all manner of funny and disturbing images, from sick getting into her mouth to being thrown bruce campbell style across the room, raimi has great fun here, the film is full of shocks, and a great charactor in the gypsy women doing her business, raimi certainly knows where to put the jumps and great use of sound,and even silence, the film certainly has a sence of horrors from the past, and at times a roger corman vibe. the film never realy drags, although some acting bis a bit off, but i think thats intentional. heres hoping raimi likes it here and maybe a sequel or two, before he gets back to spiderman

kevin bacon, and colin firth are great as 2 stand up, musicians from the 50s, whos careers went and ended, after a dead body found in there hotel room,years later a young women must interview, firth as part f his book deal, but she also encounters bacon, in which she gets invlved, is there more to this encounter and book deal, what is she up to, and what hapend with dead body, alison lohman is great as women getting involved, and bacon and firth, streching there acting, a great look, for the 50s, and 70s pereiods

from the guys who did the crank films, gerald butler is a conficted felon in the not too distant future having taken part in a game, where conficts are used like a player in a video game, shooting his way to survive, through a mind control device, once hes getting closer to his target of thirty plays he is to be killed anyway, some good action and violence throughout, the directors again bringing that crank edge to action and story, there are dull bits, and sometimes story doesent totally convince, and i feel there was more story not seen, but it is enjoyable, full of action and carnage, and perfect saterday night viewing

all actors are a good watch, halle bery in a emotional role, and benicio del toro, also, a film about grief and a frienship that grows from that, english language debut from susanne bier, director of the exellent after the wedding

3D PRESENTATION, DIGITAL

i had a chance to see this as a 3d experience on a digital screen, and the film does look stunning the animation is top notch really capturing some of the names on offer, and some of the 3d work is really good, the actors anthony hopkins doing his usual welsh thing comes of o.k but a bit funny, ray winestone though takes some getting used to, as what sounds like himself as a londoner, but you get used to it, so great anination there, irs getting scarely realistic, and angelina jole, is brethless probely best looking cartoon charactr ever, the plot which is based on a very old book, is ok, but dident really get into it, and be warned although this is i believe a 12a in the u.k, which means you can take your kids, its not really suitable for them, lots of sexual things and sayings flying around, not to mention quite brutal killings, so if it wernt fot the 3d presentation, i would probely knock a star off, but as 3d, pretty spectacular, if a bit shallow
