Death Proof (Grindhouse Presents) (2007, R)
Kurt Russel is the King of Cool in this very dialogue-driven movie, which of course has come to be the trademark by any product by Tarantino. Anyhow, as I was very disappointed with the incredibly overrated Kill Bill movies, I expected to heave a deep sigh here also. And yes, Death Proof unfortunately proved to be overrated as well. Despite Kurt Russel's cool character, the good music, the fun and clever dialogue and its retro b-movie style, I couldn't help but be pained by all its draggyness. At least it can proud itself with winning the award for having one of the coolest car crashes in the history of film-making. Gory, bloody and shockingly awesome! It doesn't hurt either that the car chase in the end was incredibly thrilling, even though the final scene felt a bit lackluster. If I had watched this in the cinema, I would probably have walked out very sleepy and with a pressing impulse to go ask for my money back. |
