Saving Private Ryan (1998,  R)
Saving Private Ryan
spielberg does a amazing job capturing the d day landings, in a amazing realistic recreation, at around 25 minutes, showing the true horror of the attack, that was a major turning point for the allied forces, from there we follow a group of men, lead by hanks, on a mission to find a soldior, who has lost 3 brothers in the same war, they must bring him home, although, this part of film, hinges on dull sometimes, it is redeamed by little set pieces here and there, as the guys move through the french countryside, and after the opening, you think it cant get better than that, but when ryan is found, at a town and defending a bridge, were on for one hell of a fire fight, almost a hour of, superb, realistic staged, authentic looking action, shot like the d day bit, as bleached, with fading colours, the film looks eery, and fits perfectly, the attack by german tanks is handled great by spielberg, a proper eye for death and mayhem, no indiana jones fighting germans comically here, heart wrenching to watch, and brutally violent, many war veterans have said, this and d day landings were captured the way it was, and it certainly changed the way directors think about shooting war scenes, the film is bookend ed by a old ryan reflecting, by graveside, and many have commented its total spielberg, maybe it is, but certainly is sad, and im sure spielberg has made this for all veterans out there, and for kids today to see and never forget, so like shindlers list a very inportant film, both in theme and filmmaking

Perfect Stranger (2007,  R)
Perfect Stranger
enjoyable, but typical hollywood mush, silly concept, but oddly entertaining, berry looks stunning, and comes off well, but giovanni ribisi, is actor to watch here, the chief suspect for purpose of film, exellent to watch, willis does his willis thing, his dmirk on show, just roll with it, dont expect to much, a brainless sat night kinda film
8
The Dog Problem (2007,  R)
The Dog Problem
a good little directing debut from scott caan, and a good performance from ribisi, as a guy who gets a dog, for personal problems, and trys desperatly to hod on to it when interest is struck in it, some comic moments, not brilliany by any means, but strangly never dull, a good score and music also
