I'm Not There (2007, R)
dident think i was going to like this, im in no way a bob dylan fan, and dident really get todd haynes other film palidodromes, in which varioius actors and races played a particular charactor, well here he does it again, diferent actors playing dylan, but not, as there not called bob dylan in film butthey are playing charactors going thrugh certain events or dreams in his life, so we have richard gere playing a charactor living his life as billy the kid growing old, cate blanchett as the dylan who stunned fans when he went electric, and so on, and its pretty fasinating to watch as even though not called dylan, gets him down well, the strongest story and performance has to be blanchet, getting dylan down quite well, even for a women, bale and gere, also doing great, and a stand oout also is the little kid doing dylan as a black kid whos great singing the blues, heath ledgers performance took it out for me a little bit as he was most unlike dylan, but story was interesting to watch and next to blanchet mst screentime, directed well, dylan songs used to great afect, and certainly made me apreciate him as a artist more, i gave this 4 stars but i have a feling dylan fans may go for 5,, depicts certain events in his life well and itll be apreciated, though i coould be wrong, what do i know, |

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008, PG-13)
david fincher and pitt team up for there 3rd effort, it may seem like a forest gump type tale, but its engageing throughout, and the story of a newborn, who is old in age and condition, growing backwards as we hear his story, is always engageing, sad and epic in its look, pitt, who im sure will get a oscar nomination for his work is watchable as usuall, and his work from very old to a young man shines, the make up and visual effects for old age is terrific, but always relighing on pitts acting, fincher whos gone for a sort of fairytale here, and in a way a departure, is on form, once again his work looks superb, a great eye for detail, cate blanchet also bringing something to the table as the love of his life, a film sad at times, and funny and tthought provoking. |

Babel (2006, R)
interesting film, out of the stories on show, the japanese story has to be the best, koji yakusho playing a death girl, and her dealings with it, while over other side of the world, brad pitts nurses a gun sho wounded cate blanchet, and in america, a mexican baby sitter takes kids over border to mexico, for a wedding, all engageing stories, all connected in a very slight piece of information, great acting all round, brad pitt showing his age, grey hair ect. in a interesting role, follow up from 21 grams for director alejandro gonzalez inaritu, using similer style in time frame, and mood |
