Insomnia
Insomnia is a solid psychological thriller, spiced up on many levels to offer slightly more than the ordinary mousehunt. Set in remote Alaska, the movie toys with the concept of darkness & light both as in the protagonist's trouble sleeping and the moral ambiguity which is a central theme of the movie.

Al Pacino again is the pure definition of acting and watching him work his magic is utter brilliance. The rest of the cast if solid. Robin Williams is an interesting choice for his role and he does a good job, although his role is a bit onedimensional and is merely an utility to carry the script.

The directiion is a bit bittersweet, Nolan does a lot in this movie, uses many techniques and opens up many levels of artistic style which kind of overloaded the movie in my opinion. Contrasting the Alaskian lethargy with fast editing, the idea of light & darkness, four different plotlines which are only loosely connected etc. A very ambitious effort which sets this movie apart from your average Thriller Noir, yet it does not work perfectly well.

All in all, the movie is very good, and while some might praise Nolan for his approach and others might not, the movie will not fail to entertain both.

PS.: On a sidenote, the movie is a remake of the 1997 movie by the same name, which I have not seen but it is supposed to be closer to the book, gloomier and more gritty, so you might want to see that as well.
