Rushmore (1998, R)
How can someone not love this film? It's the first Wes Anderson film that was widely seen and it's a film that contains both his odd humor and his brilliant understanding of the socially uncomfortable humans. This is both Jason Schwartzman's and Bill Murray's best acting. It's what gives the film it's heart. |

Mulholland Drive (2001, R)
I'll be honest with anyone reading this I've seen the movie 5 or 6 times and I still don't fully get it. However that's where the magic of Mulholland Dr. comes from. It's a movie that challenges those with IQ's and makes them think. Director David Lynch who gives us his best work since Blue Velvet shows those who see it a important reminder that films are a art form. Plus a great performance by the always lovely and superb Naomi Watts and the great naked lesbian scenes. (I'm 15 what do you expect?) alone makes the movie worth seeing. |

Before Sunrise (1995, R)
Here's something rare a film that's suppose to be romantic and relates to the young generation. This movie does both. Although some will say this is just boring and way to long. I say that this movie works terrifically because of Richard Linklater's gift for being able to create charecters that seem real and have many of the same thoughs about life that most have. As for Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke both are terrific because it doesn't feel like a movie, you feel as though you're watching 2 real people. |

Dead Man (1995, R) |

| 10 |
Boyz n the Hood (1991, R)
It's a movie that does something that most movies fail to do get involved and try to help the issue. John Singleton's first and best film to date is a heart breacking movie that shows the real issues involving gang violence without accendtally making it look cool. It's a movie I think everyone should see. |

The Big Lebowski (1998, R)
First off all the Coen Brothers can't make a bad film it's just impossable for them to do. Secondly how can someone not understand how incredable Jeff Bridges is as The Dude and hell this is movie has the strongest cast for a comedy in the history of film. Yeah so it may be a bit confusing and trippy for some but those who just learn to enjoy it will be in for pure movie bliss. |

Good Night, And Good Luck (2005, PG)
So you may ask why George Clooney would bother making a film like this? I'll tell you why because this is a film every one needs to see in order to remember what exactly it means to be a journalist. This is only George Clooney's 2nd film as a director yet already he shows a rare mixture of talent and fire that will one day rank him as a legend of filmmakers. But Clooney is not the only reason to see it as the legendary Edward R. Murrow, David Strathairn gives the greastest performance of his career and gives a performance that will be remember as one of the greatest performances this time. This is a must see for those who rather hear what happened to Paris Hilton in prison then real news. |

The Graduate (1967, PG)
Really what is there to truly say about the Graduate that hasn't already been said. I love this movie (Plus my girlfriend's favorite film too) Brilliant performances from Dustin Hoffman and Anne Bancroft, Brilliant writing, Brilliant direction and the greatest soundtrack of all time. I don't need anymore reasons to tell you why it's great do I? |

Twelve Monkeys (12 Monkeys) (1995, R)
First thing I want to say that at first I thought this was a 4 star film because although everything from Gilliam's direction, the best acting both Bruce Willis (Although to be fair this is one of the few films that Bruce had to do more then act like himslef) and Brad Pitt has ever done and the top notch camera work, score and editing. I just found the film a bit too complex for it's own good. However this film much like Mulholland Dr., 2001 and Terry Gilliam's Brazil deserves to be a 5 star film for one very important reason it took me 6 viewings of this movie to understand that a movie that keeps me wondering like this is without a doubt a masterpiece of filmmaking. |

Into the Wild (2007, R)
Sean Penn maybe what some consider to be a bit pretentious and God knows I'm not diagreeing (Remember All The King's Men?) but remember that promising young actor we saw in 1989's Casualties of War? Well guess what that actor is in Emile Hirsch in what is Penn's best work as a director. Penn makes a movie a beutiful and poetic film out of Jon Krakauer's book with beutiful camera work and a amazing sound track from Eddie Vedder (That means a lot considering I hate Pearl Jam). Now back to Hirsch, he absoultly shines in this performance with an incredably likeable personality and understands the beauty of the book as much as Sean Penn does. Dispite some other terrific performances some you can expect (Catherine Keener and William Hurt) and some you don't see coming (Vince Vaughn and Hal Holbrook can act who knew?) but it's Hirsch who gives the film some hope, makes Chris a symbol of freedom and spirit. It may not be as chilling as No Country For Old Men or has flat out stunning as Sunshine but only someone as pretentious as Sean Penn (And I mean this the best way possible) can create a movie with this much heart and soul. |

The Fountain (2006, PG-13)
When this film first debuted at at Venice was it booed by audeinces and panned by critics for being nothing more than movie trying too hard too be a art film and being confusing. You know what everyone who hated this movie, go see Micheal bay movies and Big Moma's house staright for a month. Then tell me how this visually beautiful and heart breaking film sucks. Aronoafsky has made another classic film after a long waited return after Requiem for a dream. This movie is one of the best sci-fi films ever made. However that's not the best part of the Fountain. Aronofsky is a poet of film making and with the screenplay he wrote you see his heart pour into your lap. Now that would mean nothing if the actors weren't up to the part. Jackman who's proved to us that he's a talent(X-men 1 and 2, the Prestige.) but here he gives us his best acting ever and Weisz also gives a terrific post-oscar performance. Although it floped in theatres the Fountain is a movie that deserves to become a classic and after Aronofsky turned down batman begins it better be come one. |

About Schmidt (2002, R)
First of all I want to say that Jack Nicholson has given his best performance in years but this movie has such a low flixter rating because this is Nicholson in ways we've never seen him before as a really human being. Though some say it's boring and pointless I say it's funny and heartbreaking. A great reminder about why Jack Nicholson is one of greatest actors before he started playing himslef over and over again. |

Casino Royale (2006, PG-13)
Gone are all the annoying gadgets and in exchange a great new bond that has both substances and style. Not only a great action film but a great story about love with the story with Bond and Veper(the stunning Eve Green.) Craig is by far the best actor to play Bond. He brings a gritty James Bond like the charecter is suppose to be but also manages to give the charecter a soul. Now it's still debatable if he's the best bond but Casino Royale has earned it's place as the best Bond movie EVER. |

Once (2007, R)
Do you hate the glam and style over substance attitudes of Chicago, Dreamgirls and the sure to be craptacular hairspray remake but still make a weak spot for a good musical? Then this movie is for you. Although Once may be a movie that isn't suppose to warm my cold critic's heart it does and without $70 million dollars and musical numbers. Once much like Richard Linklater's 1995 classic Before Sunrise works because of a great relationship between the 2 actors. In his first film in 15 years Glen Hansard is not only a great singer but proves he his the acting talent to go a long way and Marketa Irglova is just as much as a heartwarming and kind presence on film. This movie is a future classic for one reason it keeps the story about people's love for music. |

Raiders of the Lost Ark (Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark) (, PG)
Don't you miss the days where movies that were this much fun were made? You have Harrison Ford in what may be the greatest job he's ever done as an actor and is just the prove people need that quality movies can be made and still be great fun. Something in a day that Pirates 3 and Transformers are consided timeless we truly need. |
