An absolutely fantastic British comedy. Simon Pegg and Nick Frost work tremendously well together and introduce a new and hilarious humour to film. The jokes never get old and if you watch it again you notice the more subtle ones. You would think a film with zombies would be slightly scary, but they are made to look so slow and hopeless it just adds to the humour. Also no matter how disgusting something or tense something was something else happened to make it funny. An absolute masterpiece of a film that I will never get tired of.
It's surprising how such a weird film can have a meaning behind it. Other than Shaun of the dead , this is probably the funniest film I've seen. Some of the things White goodman and the guy in the wheelchair are so random and just make me laugh so much. But every character is so unique and so hilarious.
Will Ferrell is absolutely hilarious in this. Definitely the best christmas film I've seen. So many memorable parts that still make me laugh. Everything about this film is just perfect
"Homeless Man: You got a dollar? Buffy Gilmore: Get away from me, you bum. Cindy Campbell: Buffy, can't you see he's hungry? Here you go, sir, a nice sandwich. Homeless Man: I said a dollar, bitch. "
When I first saw this I hadn't seen 'Scream' or 'I Know what you did last summer' and still enjoyed all the jokes. The first time I watched it I thought this was film was absolutely hilarious. Now that I'm a bit older I still enjoy it, but can appreciate why many people won't go near this film. It's sequels (except Scary Movie 2) and all the other films that take the mick out of every genre the directors can think of, have let this film down big time, they've milked it way too much. The humour in 'Scary Movie' is sick, ridiculous, outrageous and a lot of the time pretty stupid but it still remains one of the few films that has kept me laughing out loud from beginning to end. To be honest it's also pretty well made and Wayans manages to include the plots of the two most popular teen horrors at the time together really well. The Wayans brothers would steal the show were it not for Anna Farris who is just brilliant as Cindy, and she is the one thing that improves in the series. I love this film and still find many of the jokes funny, but it is definitely a film only for some people with a certain sense of humour.
"Is it true that there's a point on a man's head where if you shoot it, it will blow up?"
After the genius that is Shaun of the Dead there was no doubt this was going to be a great film. Simon Pegg and Nick Frost work so well together and they are both hilarious. A film that is basically for Britain to laugh at itself again and it is just about as funny as Shaun of the Dead.
Country life in Britain is obviously completely comically exaggerated in this, but you can understand where they are coming from. From the false accents and village life, to the naive police 'officers' and escaped swan, I love every minute of it. The action scene is pretty entertaining at the end, and a great tribute to cop action flicks. An absolutely hilarious film that I will watch over and over again.
It's so random and absurd, but so funny. The black knight cracks me up, and I loved the bit at the end when they're charging at each other and then a car pulls up into the middle of the field. So many brilliant sketches
I actually really enjoyed this film. I suppose the concept and plot is a bit ridiculous, but there are many funny moments, and many memorable quotes. I also have to say this is probably one of Jim Carrey's best performances. His character, Bruce Nolan, actually has a personality and resembles a normal person instead of being a complete lunatic (though he does have a crazy side to him), and his character is well developed throughout the film. Carrey plays the part very well and provides the majority of the jokes, which are surprisingly good. Steve Carrel also deserves a mention as he also plays his part well and adds to the over the top madness whilst also playing a fairly serious character. It's not the funnist comedy ever made, but it is very entertaining and enjoyable at times, and to be honest it has the perfect formula for a family comedy, lots of laughs for all ages and the predictable happy ending.
"(singing) He's blonde, he's pissed, he'll see you in the lists, Lichtenstein! Lichtenstein! He's blonde, he's tanned, he comes from Gelderland, he comes from Gelderland! Gelderland, Gelderland, Gelderland... Gelderland, Gelderland, Gelderland..."
By far one of my favourite films of all time. The genius and hilarity of this film was completely unexpected. You wouldn't believe how many times I've seen this film, and I still love every minute of it. The plot is simple, but I get swept away with it every single time I watch this.
The mood, style and intentions of the film are clear from the very beginning of the film, that opens with a crowd of medieval people singing along to 'we will rock you'. The way the jousting spectators are presented as enthusiastic fans that we see today at modern sports game is brilliant. It's funny and really gets you motivated and passionate as well, and the I can't help but have a smile on my face whilst watching the whole film, particularly the end scene that is full of themes of glory, courage and the underdog. The soundtrack is also fantastic, and just emphasises the enjoyable mood of the film and the modern influence behind the way the characters act.
The cast each present believable and likable characters (except Rufus Sewell obviously) and all play their parts very well. Heath Ledger gives a decent performance, Alan Tudyk provides a lot of the comedy and Paul Bettany is probably the actor that stands out as he really is impressive, his characters motivational announcements/introductions are also a very nice touch. Rufus Sewell is also impressive as the slimy, arrogant Count Adhemar and I almost feel sorry for him as he probably plays the only character in the film that isn't completely lovable! There really is a great chemistry amongst the main cast.
This is just such an entertaining film. The variety of genres are put together perfectly, the modern links are fantastic and the cast have a huge influence on how entertaining and enjoyable this film is.
"[as Megan's head spins around] Father McFeely: Fuck this"
I'm not actually sure whether I prefer this to the first Scary Movie, or vice versa. This is definitely one of the more successful spoof movies. Theres references to much more films compared to the first Scary Movie, the humour has become more disgusting, over the top and outrageous. The majority of the cast that made 'Scary Movie' so brilliant have stayed and they are as funny as ever. Tim Curry is also cast, but barely has to lift a finger, so it's just his presence more than anything to sell the film. Similar to the first film I've found that I enjoyed this a lot more the first time I watched it, and it's gotten a bit dull after multiple viewings, but still a great film that I would reccomend to anyone who enjoys this sort of humour. If only they'd stopped here..
Haha I love this film, watched it so many times and it can still make me laugh. Personally I think it's better than the series, because I felt like he had more of a personality in this. Such a funny film. The airport scenes are hilarious
" George: I have a dream. Tom: What is your dream? George: To have a dream. "
David Zucker takes over the scary movie series and improves some things, but ruins others. The humour is made a bit less disgusting and more friendly to the younger audiences, which in a way is an improvement because some of the jokes in the previous two were a little bit over the top. The jokes are less gross, but still pretty stupid and ridiculous, but they are still very entertaining, and I have to admit, this film did make me laugh. There was also a lot more slapstick comedy which to begin with was good, but in the end it got tiresome. Another downside is the way they dragged out jokes. A lot of the time it felt like the joke was being repeated, just to make sure we got it, it's okay the audience aren't stupid! (mostly). I also wasn't too keen on the choice of films that they were taking the mick out of. The reason I enjoyed Scary Movie and Scary Movie 2 was because it was parodies of just horror films, but in this you've got reference to 'The Matrix', 'Signs' and '8 Mile', none of them have particularly scared people have they. Anna Farris and Regina Hall are still pretty entertaining, and they seem to have got dumber, but the two that shone for me were Simon Rex and Leslie Nielsen, who again are incredibly stupid, but provide so many funny moments. There are a lot of moments that I enjoyed, but the jokes are becoming very repetitive. I also prefer the first two a lot more. This is certainly where they should have stopped the whole 'movie' spoof series.
"Dr. Phillip C. McGraw: I did it. We're saved. [Shaq points at the sawed off foot] Dr. Phillip C. McGraw: What's wrong? Shaquille O'Neal: Wrong foot. Dr. Phillip C. McGraw: Motherfu..."
David Zucker brings us his second scary movie, the fourth in the series, and there is no improvement from the 3rd. There's the same old stupid and slapstick comedy as the previous scary movies, but the jokes are becoming increasingly repetitive. Scary Movie 4 has it's moments but there is nothing that is laugh out loud funny, and all it did was bring a smile to my face at the most. There's also a lot more parodies of different films, but similar to 'scary movie 3', half the films aren't even scary films, but in a way I can understand this as it is obvious the director is trying to aim these films at a younger audience now. There is also a lot more reference to popular culture, and I'm sorry, but if I don't find the jokes about popular culture funny now, how the hell is an audience in a decades time going to find it funny.
Anna Farris and Leslie Nielsen are again the main reason to watch this, as they play the only two characters that actually bring some good comedy into the film. In my opinion, if this scary movie series is going to continue, I think Zucker needs to take a step back because the jokes from scary movie 3 and 4 are getting incredibly old and repetitive. It's a shame because they've almost tarnished Scary Movie and Scary movie 2, which I thought were hilarious. This is an okay film, but nothing special and nothing that made me laugh out loud.
