The Fellowship set out on a journey for the ages, Shrek upstages Disney, and Donnie Darko is more confusing than Memento.

The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring (2001,  PG-13)
The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring 5.0 Stars
Stunning and beautiful. This instant masterpiece has terrific characters, compelling story, thrilling sequences (Gandalf fights Balrog: You Shall Not Pass!) and state-of-the-art directing, acting, and cinematography. The music score is beautiful and the New Zealand setting provides an equally beautiful Middle Earth. The acting is fantastic, from Wood's worried facial features, to Blanchett's soulful narration. Truly one of the great films.

Shrek (2001,  PG)
Shrek 4.5 Stars
A very intelligent fantasy movie with amazing animation. It's a great spoof on the classic fairytale stories, or even a spoof on Disney's fairytales. It eclipses all of Pixar's films bar 'Toy Story', which will never be topped. It's way better than its sequels.

Memento (2000,  R)
Memento 4.5 Stars
An extremely complex and intelligent film with a unique way of telling the story. The plot is brilliant but the way it is told is even better. The acting is just great and director Nolan is a genius, making this and Batman Begins is remarkable.

The story of how one person changes the lives for so many people is inspiring. The combination of reality and fanatsy is artistic. Tautou as Amelie has one of the best hairstyles in cinema

Intriguing story with some interesting theories. But how did this beat 'The Fellowship...' at the Oscars???
