In the Name of the Father (1993, R)
A really good movie based on true events. Daniel Day Lewis and Pete Postlethwaite are excellent in this. I was never aware of this story untill I saw this film. I read more on it after watching the film. A great film about injustice and the human spirit through to keep fighting. A film that actually strikes different emotions though out the film. A must see. |

Walk the Line (2005, PG-13)
What a great movie. Joaquin Pheonix did a excellent job portraying Johnny Cash. One of the best movies I've seen on a music legend. Johnny Cash is one of the few country music stars I can listen to. I would have to say this is Joaquin Pheonix best role he has every done. Plus Reese Witherspoon gives a top notch performance as well. |

Braveheart (1995, R)
This was a great movie. Mel Gibson delievers a great film in his acting and his direction. The story based on a Scottish hero William Wallace was well done. The look and feel of the film was excellent. Acting tops all around by the cast. Patrick McGoohan gives a awesome performance as King Edward the Longshanks. Plus the well shot battle scenes are outstanding. This is a long film that does take and twist the actual William Wallace story. But that does not matter. They stay close enough to the history of the story and bring us a great film to watch. |

Almost Famous (2000, R)
This has to be one of the best rock movies out there. Based on a true story the film is great from begining to the end. What a great cast in the film. From Patrick Fugit great performance as the young teenager traveling with a rock band. To Kate Hudson as the queen of the groupies. From Billy Crudup and Jason Lee great performances as members of the band Stillwater. Plus a great supporting cast throughout the film. If the film wasn't good enough the soundtrack alone in the film was awesome. I think Elton John's song Tiny Dancer got more popular after this film came out. A must see film for rock fans. A classic. |

In The Line Of Duty: Ambush In Waco (1993, R) |
|

Schindler's List (1993, R)
A classic film. Depicts a very tragic part of our history. Not your typical WWII film. Gives us the dark look into how humans can be evil and cruel due to someone being a different race or religion. Steven Spielberg filmed this in black and white. A perfect way to film this story. Everyone who made or performed as actors give all star performances in this film. A must see film for everyone to see. |

Fire in the Sky (1993, PG-13)
This was a interesting movie. If aliens are real I wouldn't want to be abducted after watching this. The torture and pain this man went through was crazy. Based on true events of a man who claims to have been abducted by aliens and then was experimented on. Now you never really get any proof if this man was abducted when he was missing but the film kept me interested and satisfied in the end. Worth a watch if your into movies like the X-Files. |

61* (2001, Unrated)
A really good baseball movie. Great movie for baseball fans. Thomas Jane and Barry Pepper are both excellent in this film. Billy Crystal does a great job in his direction of the film. He shows us the good and rough times for baseball legends Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle. You can tell Billy Crystal is a fan in the way he directs and pays respect to the people in the film. Even if your not a baseball fan you should enjoy this film for the great acting and story. Well worth the watch. |

The Great Escape (1963, Unrated)
This was a good movie for the time it was made. Has a great cast and a great true life story. Steve McQueen and James Garner stood out the most has the best actors in the film. A great WWII film. I saw a TV special on one of the actual POW involved with the escape. He also was one of the advisors to the film. He said about 90% of the film was accurate. |

The Tuskegee Airmen (1995, PG-13)
This is a great WWII film based on true events. The film has a great cast and the story is great about the first African American pilots for the war. Laurence Fisburne and Cuba Gooding Jr. are both excellent in this. The story shows how the pilots had to deal with the racism throughout the film and still be able to serve their country and fellow officers. A great film. |

Letters from Iwo Jima (2006, R)
This was a great movie. Nice to see a story on the Japanese side of the war. Great acting by the entire cast. I saw Flags of our Fathers first and you could see scenes taken from each movie during the battle. Clint Eastwood did a great job in directing these films. The movie is subtitled through out which makes it that much better. I prefer sometimes films keeping the original language of the country. It adds to the movie. Ken Watanabe was the only Japanese actor I reconized in the film. But again I thought the all the actors did a good job in their roles. A must see for war film fans. |

Flags of Our Fathers (2006, R)
A great war film. Shows a new side of the American fight in WWII. Great cast and a interesting story behind the famous picture of American soldiers raising the flag. Clint Eastwood directs this film very well. You can see footage from this film and match to the movie Letters from Iwo Jima during the battle scenes. I would suggest watching either film back to back to catch this. Adam Beach stood out as the best actor from the film. He was very good in his role. I thought everyone in the film did a great job. Overall a great film. |

Mississippi Burning (1988, R)
A great murder mystery suspense thriller based on true events. The story deals with the Ku Klux Klan and the murder of three black men. The story shows a dark side of American history. Overall the story is quite good and entertaining. Gene Hackamn and William Dafoe both give top notch performances. A worthy film to watch. |

Great Balls of Fire! (1989, PG-13)
This is a solid movie based on the life of musician Jerry Lee Lewis. The film stars Dennis Quaid as Lewis and Winona Ryder as his young cousin who he ends up marrying. A interesting look into Jerry Lee Lewis life. I was familiar with his music but not his life. He came across as a cocky man who made some bad choices later on in his career. Worth a watch if you enjoy true life based movies. |

Maurice Richard (The Rocket) (2007, PG)
A great hockey film. I'm not a Montreal Canadian fan but this is a must for hockey fans. A great film showing the struggles of a man and his family in Quebec trying to survive. Hockey was a second job to Maurice to feed his family. Shows the tough times of the NHL before helmets and very little pay in it. Also shows how the rich and poor are divided in this and how things change over time. Much more than a hockey film. A film about a great man and a Canadian hero. |

Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story (1993, PG-13)
If your a fan of the great legend Bruce Lee then this is a must see. Based on the life of Bruce Lee it shows his life from childhood up to his death. Jason Scott Lee and Lauren Holly both give great performances. This film shows the struggle of one man trying to make something of his life for his family and his career. Plus with some great action scenes shows why Bruce Lee will always be one of the best martial artists in film and the world. A great watch. |

Cobb (1994, R) |

| 20 |
Titanic (1997, PG-13)
This movie lived up to expectations. Now we all know the true story of the sinking of the Titanic. The film is based off the real events of the sinking while a fictional story is added for entertainment. The story is quite good. A love story set around this event. Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet both give great performances. Plus a good performance from Billy Zane as the main villain in the film. The F/X of the sinking was great. This is a long film but worth the watch. |
|
| 21 |
Quiz Show (1994, PG-13)
The movie Quiz Show is based on the ture events on the television show Twenty-One in the 1950's. The show basically rigged the game so one contestant would win. The film is well directed by Robert Redford. With great acting from Ralph Fiennes, Rob Morrow and John Tuturro. The film is a great drama envolving the scandal and how television producers tried to dupe the public. A interesting story and film worth watching. |

K-19: The Widowmaker (2002, PG-13)
This is a decent film based on true events. Based on a story of Soviet soldiers on a submarine sent out on a mission run before the sub is even up to code. Of course the sub begans to leak radiation and the stubborn sub commander will not ask the Americans for help due to pride. Harrison Ford is excellent as usual in his role but his Russian accent could have used some work. Plus great acting from Liam Neeson in this as well. They filmed this movie in my city of Halifax. I could see them film this from my apartment. Plus I can see my apartment building when I lived there in the film. Neat to watch a film and see buildings and scenery from my home town. Overall this is more of a drama and a thriller than a action film. With a good story and some soild acting all around makes for a entertaining film. |

Charlie Wilson's War (2007, R)
This is a good political film based on true events about Texas congressman Charile Wilson and his story about trying to supply weapons to Afghanistan to help fight the Soviets in the 80's. The film shows that even though Charlie Wilson is a playboy politician he is also a very smart man in many ways. The film is a nice flowing story and has great dialouge. The film is also very funny at times. I am not sure if the director meant to have it done this way or it was by accident. But it worked. The film has a great cast with Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts, Ned Beatty, Philip Seymour Hoffman and John Slattery. But it was the performances of Tom Hanks and Philip Seymour Hoffman that made the film. They were both excellent in their roles. Overall a great political film that shows one side of the story about Charlie Wilson and his dealings with the Afghan-Russian war. |

Mask (1985, PG-13)
A good movie based on true events of a boy born with a face deformity. The films stars Cher, Sam Elliott. Laura Dern and Eric Stoltz. The entire cast do a great job. The film shows the good times and difficult times for the boy and his family as the overcome how people judge the way he looks. A touching film about family and friendships. Well worth a watch. |

Black Hawk Down (2001, R)
This is a true based story about American soldiers who go into Somalia to complete a mission and run into resistance they never expected. This is a great war film. The film has tons of action and battlle sequences. The film is very graphic with the violence and action. Made for a better film. Plus the film has tons of great characters to follow through out the film. The film has a great cast starring Josh Hartnett, Orlando Bloom, Ewan McGregor, Eric Bana, and Ewen Bremner. This is a great film to check out for those who enjoy true life based film or war films. |

Resurrecting the Champ (2007, PG-13)
This is a very good film based on the true story of a young sports writer telling the story of boxer Bob Satterfield who was thought dead. I have never heard of the story personally untill the movie came out. This is a film with a great story and characters. Josh Hartnett and Samuel L. Jackson both give great performances in this. Plus the film has a good supporting cast with Alan Alda, Teri Hatcher, Kathryn Morris and David Paymer. The story the young journalist writes turns out to haunt him and his career. The film is well done and is a enjoyable watch. I think it helped that I never heard of the story so the ending was that much better for me. Overall this is a great film to check out. |

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007, R)
This is a great western film based on the real events and life of Outlaw Jesse James and Robert"the Coward" Ford. First off the film was beautifully shot. From the images to the darkness of the film and the period of the film was great. The film also as a great cast. Brad Pitt was excellent as Jesse James. Casey Affleck gives one of his best ever performances as Robert Ford. Plus a good supporting role from Sam Rockwell. The film may seem slow in parts but I found the characters are so well potrayed and the content was interesting to keep me watching. After watching the film I read up on the history of Jesse James and Robert Ford. The film is pretty near accurate to the history and how the characters were preceived. Overall a must see film for fans who enjoy westerns or just those who like real event based films. |

Saints and Soldiers (2004, PG-13)
This is a great WWII film based on true events. The story is about a group of allied soldiers stuck behind Nazi lines who must get vital information to the allies to help stop a Nazi surprise attack. As this group travels along they get a great comradery and respect for each other. This is a great true life based story that is interesting, tragic and full of great characters. The cast do a great job in each of their roles. The film reminded me of Band of Brothers and Saving Private Ryan. If you enjoy WWII films then I would suggest checking this out. Well worth the watch. |

Rudy (1993, PG)
This was a good film based on a true story. Who doesn't like a underdog movie. This is Sean Astin best role he ever starred in. The film shows the determination and hope one can have as a person. Rudy is just such a likable character. Your hoping he makes the Notre Dame football team. This is just a heartfelt story of one person's dream coming true. You don't have to be a American football fan to enjoy this film. A great film for anyone to watch. |

Bugsy (1991, R)
This is a good film based on real events. One of my favorite films by Warren Beatty. A great story of mobster Bugsy Siegel and his rise to power and how he helped create Vegas the way it is today. The film has a great cast cast with Warren Beatty, Harvey Keitel, Annette Benning, Ben Kingsley and Joe Mantegna. I you enjoyed films like Casino or the Godfather then check out this true life story on famous mobster Bugsy Siegel. |

JFK (1991, R)
A good conspiracy flick. Does make you think if there really was a cover up with the JFK death. A good look at history and speculation on the death of JFK. The film has a great cast starring Kevin Costner, Joe Pesci, Gary Oldman, Kevin Bacon, Donald Sutherland, Tommy Lee Jones and Sissy Spacek. Director Oliver Stone does a great job in his direction of the film and is good at showing us a possible side to this famous death and story. Check it out. |

The Ghost and the Darkness (1996, R)
A great action adventure film based on true events. Two lions go on a killing spree in Africa while British and Africa workers try and complete a bridge for a train. Val Kilmer and Michael Douglas both give top notch performances in their roles. The lions sort of have that same effect that the shark had in Jaws. You never want to go the wild of Africa. And what is worst is this story actually happened. Overall this is a great film with a great cast and story. Well worth the watch. |

Basically about the history of the last Russian Tsar and how the monk Rasputin was in their lives. The film has a great cast. Alan Rickman is great as Rasputin. Ian MacKellen was also great as Tsar Nicholas II . A great story and telling of Russian history. |

Valkyrie (2008, PG-13)
A great WWII drama about the true story of Colonel Claus Von Stauffenberg and his attempt to assassinate Adolf Hitler and throw a coup right after to control Germany and end the war. Great performances from Tom Cruise, Tom Wilkison, Terence Stamp, Eddie Izzard and Carice Van Houten. This is a great movie showing that not all the German people believed Hitler was taking them on the right path. If only they could have acted sooner. Great job by director Bryan Singer and his ability to throw together this great story into a film. Worth checking out for those who enjoy films about WWII or true life based stories. |

21 (2008, PG-13)
This is a film based on a true story of a very smart M.I.T. student who is trying to save money to get into Harvard medical school. Of course the amount needed is $300,000 and a life changing story to blow the dean away to get in. While in M.I.T. his math professor has a group of students gifted with conuting cards. They of course take this skill to Vegas on the weekends to make money. They all fall into the trap of the money and life style Vegas has to offer. A great story with a solid cast. Jim Sturgess is great as the main lead in the film. Also solid performances from Kate Bosworth, Laurence Fishburne and Kevin Spacey. A worthy entertaining watch. |

Gorillas in the Mist: The Story of Dian Fossey (1988, PG-13)
This is a true life based film about animal rights activist and scientist Dian Fossey. The film stars Sigourney Weaver as Fossey. The film has a solid story about Fossey's struggle to study and protect the gorillas in Africa from poachers. Sigourney Weaver gives a great performance. I can see why she got nominated for a Oscar. A film that shows the dedication and struggles one must do to protect something. Well worth a watch. |
|

Patch Adams (1998, PG-13)
This is a true life based story on a doctor who believes that laughter is one of the best medicines for helping people get better. Stars Robin Williams as Patch. We follow this doctor on his rise and problems trying to be a doctor and helping people. Not a bad film. Was interesting enough and the film also has a great supporting cast. Robin Williams gives us another great performance. Worth at least a one time watch. |
|
| 42 |
Erin Brockovich (2000, R)
This is a true life based story about a woman named Erin Brockovich who fights a power company that polluted a towns water supply. Stars Julia Roberts as Erin Brockovich. This film won Julia Roberts an Oscar. She does give a strong performance in this. The story is interesting. But not as good as all the hype around it. But still worth a one time watch. |
|
| 43 |
Ed Wood (1994, R)
This is a film about the real life of low budget director Ed Wood. This of course is directed by Tim Burton. What a perfect choice. And Burton's go to guy Johnny Depp stars as Ed Wood. Plus the film has such a great supporting cast. Martin Landau and Johnny Depp though give the best performances in this. Now the life of Ed Wood is very strange. Not sure how accurate the story is to his life. But it was a interesting. Ed Wood seemed to be a fan of making campy movies. Overall this movie comes off as a comedy since Ed Wood was so strange and funny. Worth checking out for Burton and Depp fans. |
