Queen of the Damned (2002, R)
This is one stylish movie, one of my favourite vampire movies. It is nothing like Interview with the Vampire, in case you are wondering. Its about rockin' vampires, and Aaliyah actually had a very small role in it. All advertising for this movie was very misleading. Its mostly about Lestat's life as a rockstar, and the supernatural expert who is obsessed with him. Its very modern, but great. |

Interview with the Vampire (1994, R)
So incredibly sexy and stylish. The feel and look of everything was the best part. I didnt find the story particularly engaging. There were a few moving moments, like when Lestat said, "I'm going to give you the choice I never had" again at the end. But I realy loved the feeling of serenity that lasted throughout. This movie painted an amazing and beautiful picture of vampires, even as they did all their evils. |

Van Helsing (2004, PG-13)
Almost any movie with Dracula in it is worth watching, and this is not one of the exceptions. This version reminds me of Gary Oldman's Dracula. Sexy and irresistible as ever, until he turned into that disgusting creature near the end. But, on a more relevant note, this movie was a lot of fun, bringing together several different classic horror creatures for a free for all. Dont expect anything serious in this, or anything true to its original material. Respecting what this movie intended to be, my only quibbles are that the revelation we received about Van Helsing's character was not sufficiently explained, and the ending was inharmonious with the feeling of the rest of the movie. |

Twilight (2008, PG-13)
The story is what I expected, simple but interesting enough. The relationship was also what I expected. I love vampire love. Its always so much more intense, because of their experience, because of the sacrifice, the pain it causes them just knowing they sometimes want to kill the person they love. But there wasnt very much character development for Bella and Edward, and not much building of a relationship between them either. They just loved each other, just because. |

Dracula 2000 (2000, R)
Very sylish. A cross between Queen of the Damned and Van Helsing. Definitely not to be taken serious. Lots of familiar but not too familiar faces. Gerard Butler would make a perfect Dracula, but I think he would have been better with a different look, and in Dracula's original setting. And that is one of the problems I had with this. The idea of Dr. Van Helsing keeping Dracula prisoner for a century in a vault was cool, but Dracula seemed out of place in the 21st century. I prefer his original Gothic 19th century London. The other problem I had with this was the fact that Dracula was supposed to be Judas Iscariot, instead of a Transylvanian count. Not only does it ruin the idea and style of the original character, its just completely ridiculous. God would not punish Judas by making him a Vampire and punish thousands of innocent ppl that he fed on over the centuries at the same time. |

Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1992, PG-13)
This is a pretty dumb movie. There are a few things in it that I like better than the series, but overall this isnt as entertaining. The style is a little too ridiculous compared to the series. I mean, the principle was giving the vampires detention slips. Thats a bit too dumb for my tastes. I like the style of the vampires better in this movie though. Not a fan of the Lost Boys-style vampire faces. Also, this Buffy had better moves. The Buffy in the series might fight more vampires and win, but its pretty fake. Kristy Swanson's Buffy can really move, although they over did it a bit with the flips. I also really like Pike. Too bad we dont see him again. And Luke Perry was actually pretty hot when he was younger. 90210 is kinda before my time. |
