1
Chugyeogja (The Chaser) (2008,  Unrated)
Chugyeogja (The Chaser)
An impressive Korean Thriller about a Serial Killer, which has a high level standard of acting and believability to it. The violent gore is not in every scene, but the scenes when it does arise are frighteningly realistic.

It does have it's moments whereby the fast pace of the films slows down somewhat, but soon picks up speed again and if anything, that heightens the suspense again.

Although I've only rated this film a 4, I feel it's one that after one or two more viewings, the rating will inevitably rise.

Incidentally there is a remake (presumably Hollywood) in the pipeline , I've seen comments that Leonardo DiCaprio may be taking an interest, (not sure if that's true?) it would be good to compare the two, but I have a feeling this one may come out on top.

Hansel & Gretel (2007,  Unrated)
Hansel & Gretel
A creative piece and a sisister tale, that seems all the more creepy because of it?s fairy tale connection. Having said that it?s not scary or particularly graphic in terms of gore, but the childrens performances manage to pull off an intriguing story and one that?s worth seeing.
3
Oldboy (2005,  R)
4
A Bittersweet Life (Dalkomhan insaeng) (2005,  Unrated)
A Bittersweet Life (Dalkomhan insaeng)
A film for me that got bigger and better the more I watched. Lee Byung Hun is superb as the lead role and the Action in this film was very natural, from the Acting and fight scenes to the realistic shoot outs (something I?m not usually a fan of) and bloodshed, this is definitely a film I shall be watching again.

Question? Has there ever been a Hollywood remake of this film? Not that this can be topped, but it does seem the type of storyline that Hollywood would snap up.
5
Chinjeolhan geumjassi (Lady Vengeance) (Sympathy for Lady Vengeance) (2005,  R)
6
Cello (Chello hongmijoo ilga salinsagan) (2005,  Unrated)
Cello (Chello hongmijoo ilga salinsagan)
Hugely disappointing, very slow moving which was felt throughout, it may have some originality to it, but it was very dull.

Three...Extremes (Saam gaang yi) (2005,  R)
Three...Extremes (Saam gaang yi)
THREE EXTREMES are three short films put together by some of Asia's best Directors. Each are reviewed as follows:

DUMPLINGS - This film instantly made it as the sickest film I'd ever seen, with every stomach-churning crunch, I found it very difficult to get to the end of this film, but somehow managed. I'd be very interested to know if the guys as bad as the ladies watching this, given the subject matter?

On reflection though, I feel I now understand it more as a creative piece. I think it provides an extreme metaphor for the kind of celebrity culture we have, where looks and youth are preserved at any cost.

CUT

An interesting film, which forms a visually artistic piece. Although this is a Short, it did seem to stretch a little at times and maybe it could have been made into even a shorter film, but was pretty enjoyable all the same.

BOX

A twisted plot as always, Takashi Miike?s contribution to the trilogy is by far the best. What is unspoken in this piece speaks volumes and the silence in fact makes a huge impact on the sinister tale ? One of Takashi Miikes most enjoyable films in my opinion and makes this trilogy worth watching.
8
Samaria (Samaritan Girl) (2004,  R)
Samaria (Samaritan Girl)
Quite an unusual and interesting storyline, one that starts in a direction and ends up in a completely opposite direction.

A very watchable film, but also quite easily forgettable.
9
Phone (,  Unrated)
10
Ryeong (The Ghost) (Dead Friend) (2004,  Unrated)
Ryeong (The Ghost) (Dead Friend)
Whilst a lot of this film was slow moving, the ending qas quite speedy with a lot to take in. The story itself escalated into a fairly good plot and I have to say I don?t remember the last time I jumped so much at a Horror film, of course this was helped by watching the film in the quiet with ear phones on.

Worth watching just for the jumpy scenes and the unpredictable twist.
11
Janghwa, Hongryeon (A Tale of Two Sisters) (2003,  R)
Janghwa, Hongryeon (A Tale of Two Sisters)
Very slow moving at first, then everything seems to happen really fast. Having watched this just the once, I?m still placing pieces together, so am not sure if I totally got it.

I know this is a well liked film and my rating reflects my lack of understanding of the film at this stage and is definitely worthy of another watch.
12
Memories of Murder (Salinui chueok) (2003,  Unrated)
Memories of Murder (Salinui chueok)
Sub-titled film, great storyline
13
Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (Boksuneun naui geot) (2002,  R)
Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (Boksuneun naui geot)
My least favourite of the Vengeance trilogy, yet still worthy of a watch. Didn?t think it quite made the standard of the other two, but was quirky in a sense and a good plot for a vengeance style film
14
Seom (The Isle) (2000,  Unrated)
Seom (The Isle)
The first thing I did immediately after watching this, was to grab the dvd case and read the synopsis to try to understand the hidden theme to the film.

The dvd synopsis claims ?The Most sexually perverse movie to hit our screens since David Cronenberg?s CRASH?

Totally untrue, yes it has sex in the film, but certainly not to the degree of ?CRASH?

Also says:

?Asia Extreme at it?s best? ? sadly I feel it?s Asia Extreme at it?s worse.

In truth it surprises me I made it to the end, it seems a much loved film, I just can't see the brilliance.
15
Telmisseomding (Tell Me Something) (1999,  R)
Telmisseomding (Tell Me Something)
This film heavily relies on shockability, blood and gore, without it the investigations would not have been as interesting and this film would not be popular, having said that, the blood and gore were at least something 'new' and is definitely not for the squeemish.
