Watch a Non-Disney Animated Film (Chronological)

The Peanuts were a staple of my childhood and I loved all the feature films. Especially this one, starring Snoopy. It's such a cute and sentimental story. I also love the soundtrack, provided by none other than the Sherman Brothers (of Disney fame).

Dark and haunting. A beautiful piece by Rankin & Bass that ranks up there with my favorite animated films of all time. Looking forward to the live action film that is supposedly in the works. Hope it lives up to expectation!

My favorite animated film of all time. Don Bluth's first feature film and probably his best. A sympathetic tale of a widow on her quest to find answers, accompanied by Jerry Goldsmith's beautiful score.

What an overlooked gem! The animation is beautiful, the story is engaging and the music by the Sherman Brothers is great! It's unfortunate that more people are not familiar with this animated film, especially with so many mediocre animated films out there. Perhaps it's all in the marketing. This film brings the classic comic to life in such a charming way. Fans of Hayao Miyazaki will especially appreciate it. If you love animation, try to track this down. It might be a little difficult to find, but well worth it!

I love many Don Bluth animated features, but this was a poorly made film. Even for its time the animation is pretty cheap and the characters are strange looking. Penguins with teeth? Martin Short is annoying as the shy and stuttering lead, Hubie. Even Tim Curry was cringe-worthy as the Gaston-like villain, Drake! The supporting characters, Rocko and Marina were the best but they don't carry the whole film. The music was written by Barry Manilow and is frankly quite cheesy. It just doesn't work here as it does in other films like Elton John with the Lion King, Bryan Adams with Spirit and Phil Collins with Tarzan. There are a few chuckle worthy scenes and some decent action that would perhaps appeal to small children. I was overall disappointed though.
