Wayne's World (1992, PG-13)
I have a hard time rating this one. I loved it to the point of seeing it three times the first week it was out, probably because it brought back memories of me and my friends at that age. Now I can't even sit through it -- probably for the same reason. What was I thinking -- I HATED high school! And there are many performances by Mike Myers I now prefer over this. Dana Carvey has thankfully dropped below the casting radar. But since I did like this at one time, there must be something to it. So I'll split the difference and give it a middle-of-the road rating. |

Phantom of the Paradise (1974, PG)
Tried to watch this again recently. Had given it a decent review based on memories of seeing it a LONG LONG time ago. Boy, can memories be deceiving! This movie is damn near unwatchable. I couldn't sit through more than about 5 minutes at a time. Between the performances and the music and the general production values, I'm amazed DePalma could even get this released to theatres, and even MORE amazingly that he had any kind of career after this. It's THAT bad gang. |

The Howling (, R)
I didn't like horror films until this one. Totally changed my film viewing habits. The transformation scenes made me want to become a makeup artist. I saw it again recently, and it's not as spectacular as I remember, and even hokey at times. But it still holds a fond place in my memory. |
