Part of the New Hollywood wave in the late 60's early 70's Friedkin created many a masterpeice! His unorthadox style of directing actors have become legendary. From shooting guns off and slapping actors in the face on the set of the Exorcist, Friedkin has earned the nickname of 'Hurricane"

The French Connection (1971,  R)
The French Connection
70's grit at its finest. My all time favorite action film.
2
The Exorcist (1973,  R)
The Exorcist
I had a hard time understanding this film when i was young. Saw it again at a more mature age and realized this is one of the scariest films ever made! Incredible cinamatography! Fantastic performances. Incredible make-up. And a truly horrifying story make this a classic film that doesnt loose anything with age!
I now have Reagan tattooed on my arm thank you very much.

Sorcerer (1977,  PG)
Sorcerer
This is one of Friedkins finer moments. This reworking of Wages Of Fear was pretty much dumped on during its release. I dont really understand why though. Its not perfect but its far from a disater or even just O.K.. This film is great. The suspension bridge scene is edge of your seat intense!
Roy Scheider is always incredible to watch. He's always been one of my favorites and this is one of his best roles. Next to Jaws this is probably Scheiders most impressive role.
And of course the Tangerine Dream score is one of the key elements to the coolness of this film.
Scorcerer does have its moments of disappointment though. I dont like how a couple characters are sacrificed with out any dramatic impact and the final 20 seconds of the film had me saying "what!" But really those are two minor gripes compared to how perfect everything is that comes before them.
Highly recomended.

Cruising (1980,  R)
Cruising
William "hurricane" Friedkin directs this masterpeice of cinema. Pacino's character goes so deep undercover in the gay S&M scene that by the end of the film your jaw is left dropping. Controversial upon its release Cruising does NOT depict homosexuals in a bad light. Its a very small subculture of the homosexual population that is represented.
Pacino plays a detective who goes WAY deep undercover to find a killer who's preying upon homosexuals. Joe Spinell plays a sleazy cop who is part of the underground circut that Pacino is investigating. Spinell is perfect in the role. He freakin oozes sleaziness.
Cruising is a film that sticks with you. It gets under your skin and drills its self deep into your brain. Its a very harsh film and one that really requires a couple of veiwings. Another reason Friedkin is a brilliant filmmaker! Highly recommended!

To Live and Die in L.A. (1985,  R)
To Live and Die in L.A.
exellent and extremly gritty. This film has balls. Big balls. Exellent direction from Freidkin and incredible performances from William Peterson and Willem DaFoe. This film once it gets going keeps you on the edge of your seat. one of my favorites.

The Guardian (1990,  R)
The Guardian
Wow! I cant believe the man who brought us American classics like The Exorcist, The French Connection, Sorcerer, Cruising, To Live And Die In L.A. and most recently the highly underrated Bug would have anything to do with this piece of shit. This was awful. Period. The acting was laughable. The 'baby camera' shots were totaly uninspired and dumb and the film has no substance what so ever.
Beware!!

The Hunted (2003,  R)
The Hunted
i originaly thought this was goin to be a First Blood rip-off. But Freidkin makes a good thriller here. The end is pretty intense.
9
Bug (2006,  R)
Bug
Bug is a disturbing psychological thriller. Directed by William Friedkin, whos made two of the best examples of genre films...The Exorcist and The French Connection. Although Bug doesnt come close to being as great as those two films, its still a good Friedkin film, based upon conspiracy and paranoia.
