The Wolf Man (1941,  Unrated)
The Wolf Man
This is one of those brilliant films that can be watched over and over as it suggests different realities simultaneously. Even if understood as pure horror, it succeeds brilliantly, the fog, the black trees, the gypsies, the tragic Larry, the castle, the werewolf, all these things are well done...

Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man (1943,  Unrated)
Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man
This is a craftily made and humorous movie with a great story line and wonderful execution. The plot is simple the Wolfman comes back to life and so does Frankenstein. The good thing about this film is the anticipation of the meeting between the two monsters, just like the anticipation one feels when waiting for two sports teams to play.

The Wolfman (2010,  Unrated)
The Wolfman
The Wolfman is a very earnest remake, with few of the self-conscious conceits of modern horror movies. Which is both good and bad. As a period piece, it enables us to watch without inserting a lot of our own biases and preconceptions on the story and characters. However, anything that does remind us of our own lives then pulls at the suspension of disbelief necessary to watch a film based on the supernatural.

I just pray with a budget like this they have great effect. Lots of practical effects along with quality CGI mixed together. They better be at least as good as the Theoden old-to-young transformation in the LOTR "Two Towers". After all if they want this movie to be remembered it will have to live up to "American werewolf in london" and the "Howling". The reason i'm going on about the effects and not the story is because it's already pretty well been laid out by the original 1941 version. With good acting by Hopkins and Del toro it would be pretty hard to screw up unless they try to put a spin on the plot? Anyways, to the producers all's i have to say is i've been waiting for almost three decades for a great werewolf movie "PLEASE" don't screw it up!

La Lupa Mannara (The Legend of the Wolf Woman) (Werewolf Woman) (Terror of the She Wolf) (1976,  R)
La Lupa Mannara (The Legend of the Wolf Woman) (Werewolf Woman) (Terror of the She Wolf)
a werewolf film so beautifully acted. the lowest standard was the nudity and gore are nicely done, and the female roles very well cast. Sexy actresses were chosen, and, although the women in the minor roles could not act to save their lives, Annik Borel was, as usual, perfect.

The Curse of the Werewolf, (The Wolfman), (The Curse of Siniestro) (1961,  Unrated)
The Curse of the Werewolf, (The Wolfman), (The Curse of Siniestro)
If you want mindless gore for the sake of gore, this is not the movie for you it's a tragic drama. This is a skillful retelling of an ancient tale. The horror is not in it's bloodshed, but in the terrible fate of an innocent boy's infection with "the curse of the werewolf". The film is very well paced with lots of high drama underscored by great characterization and acting through out. Oliver Reed's performance as Leon, the gentle young man cursed with the savagery of a werewolf, is powerful and compelling.

Werewolf of London (Unholy Hour) (1935,  Unrated)
Werewolf of London (Unholy Hour)
the movie was well written and well acted, although admittedly there are huge sections which are just plain dull, and the werewolf here isn't particularly horrific. The only truly memorable sequence is the initial transformation. Already interesting interpretations are being made of the Werewolf myth.

Ginger Snaps (2001,  R)
Ginger Snaps
Going from that assumption, overall this movie is very watchable. The casting, the scenery, the make-up -- they are all very well done I can guarantee that this movie is going to make you jump a couple of times,

Ginger Snaps 2 - Unleashed (2004,  R)
Ginger Snaps 2 - Unleashed
I wasn't expecting to like this movie all that much. I did like Ginger Snaps, and thought that it was kind a of new twist on the tired old werewolf genre... but it didn't seem like it needed or warranted a sequel. This movie went in a direction that I wasn't expecting. more of a psychological thriller, and focuses on whether or not Brigitte is really going to turn into a werewolf or if she might just be going crazy. Granted, that may be what a lot of people don't like about it, but I ended up really enjoying the movie.

Ginger Snaps Back - The Beginning (2004,  R)
Ginger Snaps Back - The Beginning
This movie is not as good as Ginger Snaps, no. But it's very, very good in it's own right. This is a great prequel, that's quite dark and atmospheric, with a pretty cool story and amazing chemistry between Emily Perkins and Katharine Isabelle once again!. All the characters are great, and for a Direct to video installment it was awesome,
