Dumbo (1941,  G)
Dumbo 4.5 Stars
Lovable main character (it is amazing that one of Disney's most beloved film has a title character that doesn't talk). Timothy Q. Mouse and the crows add fun characterization while the rest are sort of substituteable. The dream sequence is fantastic and brings to light the revolutionary animation of Fantasia. All in all, it does feel noticablly shorter than other Disneys, but that allows the moral to be left fully intact.

Pinocchio - Walt Disney (1940,  G)
Pinocchio - Walt Disney 4.5 Stars
One of my favorites of the Disney cannon. You just fall in love with each character. As for the technical: the directors have a keen eye for different shots and doesn't let the viewer get bored.

Bambi (1942,  G)
Bambi 5.0 Stars
Wow, had I forgotten how good this was and how forward it was for its time period (the mating thing...). The animation accompanied by music is perfect and the characters are ones you can easily fall in love with (Thumper is my favorite). The death scene is subtle, but appropriate for its time period. It's one of those "What happened Mommy?" scenes.
It's sad though, that some people as adults cannot appreciate the magic and innovation of Walt Disney.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937,  G)
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs 4.0 Stars
Enjoyed watching this again. The early days of Disney show some shakiness of narrative arc, but the dwarfs make the film adding all kinds of great humor. A classic in the classic sense, but it only works for me with the dwarfs.

One heck of a film. Something you have to watch. It's an experience.

Charming animated fun. Gets kinda weird at the end. More of a "movie" than Saludos Amigos.

Saludos Amigos (1943,  Unrated)
Saludos Amigos 3.0 Stars
It was interesting to see what Disney could do with ideas presented to them from different cultures, but, in the end, it was too documentary-ish to be enjoyable. The cartoon shorts were great, but this is hardly a film to be included in the "Disney Canon."

It's one of those movies that you watched when you were a kid and loved it. When you watch it today, it still gives you that same feeling.

Eddie Murphy as the dragon was the only reason I remotely liked it. It's a good story and everything, it just doesn't appeal to me.

A rejuvination at the time for Disney's classical animation after the success of A Bug's Life and the Toy Stories. Quite quirky and very funny.

An inventive comedy that shows Disney can work well without Pixar. It's the kind of film that wasn't immediately impressive, but has grown on me.
