La Plančte Sauvage (The Savage Planet) (The Fantastic Planet) (Planet of Incredible Creatures) (1973, PG)
I love this movie not just for how odd it is but for the lessons it teaches. Probably not for everyone as it's a very odd planet with strange creatures and weird landscapes, that don't really make any sense what so ever. One thing that does make perfect sense is the storyline. It shows not only how ignorance can hurt other creatures but also how thinking you are a superior being can get you into a lot of trouble. |

Pan's Labyrinth (El Laberinto del Fauno) (2006, R)
I was very surprised with this film. I have no idea what I was expecting except it was maybe more a children's film then anything else. Jeez was I mistaken! Obviously I hadn't heard much about it. |

Kandahar (2001, Unrated)
Such a great movie. In my opinion one of those ones that everyone should watch. Well everyone in the western world anyway. It follows the path of a woman struggling to be with her sister. It gives some insight into what sort of world these people are living in and the hardships they face. Not only that but also the oppression the women face and just how dangerous it is for them. It's one of those movies I won't forget and it honestly left me speechless. |

The Edukators (Die Fetten Jahre sind vorbei) (2005, R)
I did find with this movie that sometimes the camera work was a bit shoddy to the point where it made me feel a little on the dizzy side and I noticed one mistake which was the camera crew in the back of the van but other then that the movie was far better then I was expecting and actually quite refreshing with some really good acting. I did feel that the discussion in the cabin (I don't want to give any details) went on for longer then needed but the storyline was executed so well that that scene only amounted to being a small irritation which didn't last as the movie carried on. I do highly recommend it though. |

The Story of the Weeping Camel (2003, PG)
A gorgeous little story and beautiful people but I'd only recommend it for documentary buffs. Anyone else might find it unbearingly boring mainly because there is not much dialogue (everything said wasn't translated) and that it is pretty much a documentary. It's possible that arthouse buffs would appreciate it also. |
