1
Amores Perros (2000,  R)
Amores Perros
Utterly brilliant! Completely worthy of all it's praise. If you like films where various stories intertwine then this is an absolute must.

The acting, the plot and pretty much everything about this film was gritty and realistic.

VERDICT: You do need patience with this film, but one I definitely recommend people to see
2
Memento (2000,  R)
Memento
You need a lot of concentration for this film, it starts at the end and works back to the beginning. Guy Pearce plays a man who after an incident cannot make new memories and relies on the facts tattoo'd on his body and the photographs he carries around to work out who his wife's killer is.
3
The Gift (2000,  R)
The Gift
This film has always been a favourite of mine, it?s a great supernatural thriller. Cate Blanchett (as always) gives a very strong performance, a likeable performance too from Giovani Ribisi.

My very small annoyance was Katie Holmes (I?m not quite sure why I despise the girl so much?) but it?s slightly irrating to put her in the same league as the rest of the cast in this film, however her appearance really doesn?t affect the film or the plot.

This is an intriguing story, which offers something different to the ?whodunnit? type of mystery.

Pay It Forward (2000,  PG-13)
Pay It Forward
A re-watch for me and still one of the only films that manages to give me a lump in my throat. This film is just fantastic from the plot, to the acting, it just goes to show what can happen from a simple idea
5
Frequency (2000,  PG-13)
Frequency
This is a gripping thiller and has a great plot. This is time travel through a radio frequency, but also a murder investigation
6
Chopper (2000,  R)
Chopper
Mark Bana certainly did his research in this role, his interpretation of Mark 'Chopper' Reid ws outstanding. Chopper is most definitely a unique character, who tells a great story. For those intested, the special features on the dvd has a 'weekend with Chopper' (the real Chopper)
7
The Beach (2000,  R)
The Beach
Yet another watch for this beautiful film, a backpackers paradise and a journey of discovery not only geographically, but also from within.

The Beach takes everything you would desire about a paradise island and flips it on it's head.

This will interest anyone who has travelled/backpacked or has the desire to.

I want to see more movies like this ? If anyone has any more recommendations do please let me know.

Requiem for a Dream (2000,  R)
Requiem for a Dream
Requiem for a dream is a cleverly put together story, showing the lives of four drug addict, three addicted to narcotics and one to prescribed drugs.

The acting is great all around, the creative filming allows the viewer to understand the feelings of the characters and the music really dramatizes the situation.

Best performance has to go to Ellen Burstyn
9
The Crimson Rivers (Les Rivières pourpres) (2000,  R)
The Crimson Rivers (Les Rivières pourpres)
This French speaking, English sub-titled film, was a refreshing enjoyable watch with superb performances by Jean Reno and Vincent Cassel.

The only bad for me is that I don't think it will reach the desired audience purely because of the sub-titles which is a shame.
10
A Room for Romeo Brass (2000,  R)
A Room for Romeo Brass
Another excellent film from Shane Meadows and another outstanding performance for Paddy Considine. This film manages to lure you into a false sense of security and then shocks you. Again, gritty, realistic something that seems to be a pattern for Shane Meadows.
11
Gladiator (2000,  R)
Gladiator
I have a strange routine with big films such as this one where I tend to wait until all the hype has died down and I can watch it without jumping on the band wagon, hence, quite unbelievable I know! This is my first viewing of this film.

Not having heard a bad word said about this film and being a fan of Russell Crowe, I knew this had to be a great film.

Crowe's performance is without a doubt a powerful one and really brings the character to life, masculine, intelligent, athletic and a look that just suits the era and the costumes so well. I also enjoyed the performances by Joaquin Phoenix, Djimon Hounsou and Richard Harris too.

Everything seems to come together well in this movie and it's understandable why it is such a big film.
12
Under Suspicion (2000,  R)
Under Suspicion
A unique investigation story into two young murdered girls, this is an extremely powerful and controversial part for Gene Hackman, which for me has to be his best role to date.

The filming mainly takes part in one room, which is a hard thing to do, to keep the concentration of the audience, but apart from the first five minutes (just warming up) I was drawn to the story all the way through. There were some clever little flashbacks based on hypothesis which worked really well.

This is my second viewing of the film and I enjoyed it probably more than the first time, as my rating has gone up.

This definitely has my recommendation.
13
Essex Boys (2000,  R)
Essex Boys
This fictional story based on the sequence of a true event, shows a glimpse in the British criminal underworld.

With a psychotic performance from Sean Bean and a sinester role for Tom Wilkinson, Essex Boys is a great film of it's genre with a nice twist.
14
Almost Famous (2000,  R)
Almost Famous
A teen movie with a difference. Sex, drugs & Rock n Roll. Great music soundtrack, particularly the use of ?Tiny Dancer? on the tour bus, that's a great scene. Anyone with an interest in bands from this era will find this an interesting watch.

Great roles for Billy Crudup and Frances McDormand.

One to watch over and over.
15
Billy Elliot (2000,  R)
16
Men of Honor (2000,  R)
Men of Honor
A powerful story with powerful performances from Robert De Niro and Cuba Gooding Jr.

An interesting look at one man's courage and determination to work through the ranks in the Navy.

VERDICT: A definite recommendation
17
Sexy Beast (2000,  R)
Sexy Beast
A superb performance by Ben Kingsley who had the accent and style of talk down to an absolute ?T?. The film itself and storyline seemed to lack something I can?t quite put my finger on. Less convincing to British viewers was the idea of Ian McShane, aka Lovejoy as the top guy.

Ben Kingsley?s performance is definitely the biggest contribution to the amount of stars but just have to mention how great Amanda Redman looked in this, especially as a Brunette.
18
Hollow Man (2000,  R)
Hollow Man
A great edge of your seat Thriller/Horror. Kevin Bacon plays evil impressively in this well cast film, which combines Science and endless possibilities when things begine to spiral out of control.

The use of effects in this film are outstanding and really create the atmosphere of the story.
19
Angela's Ashes (1999,  R)
20
Born Romantic (2000,  R)
21
Shanghai Noon (2000,  PG-13)
Shanghai Noon
The duo are back from the sequel and I enjoyed this as much as the first. Very funny and some great entertaining moves from Jackie.
22
Traffic (2000,  R)
Traffic
I was really expecting some kind of over the top, Hollywood action film and was pretty impressed to see a more serious, quite realistic type of film, with great acting. Don Cheadle is fast becoming one of my favourite actors.

Admittedly this film has it's boring parts, but made quite an impact in other parts.
23
Cast Away (2000,  PG-13)
Cast Away
Tom Hanks proves he can lead a film all on his own in this Robinson Crueso style adventure. I thought it quite impressive the way the crash scene was put together and made for believable viewing
