All types of zombies: voodoo, solanum infected, 'infected', or even if the dead just start to rise because of a change in the weather. We have room for you here.

Listed in reverse chronological order using production dates.

Obviously Romero's Night, Dawn and Day are superior to any other 'zombie' movie ever produced and any that will be produced in the future.

Platoon of the Dead (2009,  Unrated)
Platoon of the Dead
One of the worst zombie movies ever! It looks like it was filmed on a camcorder and where was the special effects department? When the soldiers fire their weapons they make a "pwew pwew" sound. I don't know whether to laugh or cry. The plot involves 3 soldiers who have been seperated from their platoon, they manage to make their way to a house which is occupied by 3 scared women, one of whom refuses to speak to anyone! One of the soliders has long hair and wears eyeliner - he looks like a drummer from a rock band. And that's it really, they attempt to defend the house from the zombie platoon.

Another zombie movie made for $70? This time I can believe it.

Dead Snow (Død snø) (2009,  Unrated)
Dead Snow (Død snø)
Easily the best Zombie Flick of 2009. It's funny, it is imaginative (death sequences!), it has lots of gore and it has great-looking Nazi zombies! I enjoyed the references to other movies (especially Evil Dead) and there was a genuinely creepy scene about the history of the Nazi living dead. If you are planning to go skiing this winter, Dead Snow contains excellent survival advice if you are buried by an avalanche, amongst other things.

Deadgirl (2008,  R)
Deadgirl
I love a movie where the guy gets the girl .

Two disaffected teenage boys come across a (sort of) dead girl in an abandoned hospital. Being teenagers, one disregards much of his humanity in favour of darker intentions while the other objects but does nothing to back up his protests.

Deadgirl is ingenious. Yes, it is highly disturbing and extremely creepy but it's an original idea for a zombie movie. Normally when the guy gets the girl, it's a happy ending, but there's just something that's not quite right about Deadgirl.

Exciting times for zombie movie lovers - I can't wait to see 'Colin'.

Plaguers (2008,  Unrated)
Plaguers
Are you ready for another infected zombie flick? This time it is set in space! Okay, there's the SOS distress signal, the civilian space crew, the ship's android, yes it doesn't require a genius to work out that Plaguers has been influenced by the Alien franchise.

Unlike Zombies The Beginning, Plaguers doesn't quite have that "so bad, it's good" feel. The "sexy" space pirates aren't actually that sexy. I've seen sexier women behind the counter at my local pharmacy (yes, the orange ones!)

So they may not be super sexy, but the space pirates were the most entertaining characters in the movie. As individuals they didn't care about anyone else apart from themselves, their ruthlesness was amusing at times, when they'd find themselves faced with a couple of the infected humans they'd make a sharp exit leaving others to deal with the monsters!

I'd recommend this movie only to the hardcore zombie lovers.

Zombi: La creazione, (Zombies: The Beginning) (2007,  Unrated)
Zombi: La creazione, (Zombies: The Beginning)
This is actually one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Guess what, I kinda enjoyed it! The plot is basically Aliens but with zombies replacing the aliens! Throw in terrible dubbing and a terrible script ( When one marine is taken aback by how long it will take for a rescue party to reach them he says,"20 days? We won't last 24 hours!")

Although I have no idea what was happening at the end, I'd still recommend this movie to any and every zombie fan. "So bad, it is actually good."

Mud Zombies (Mangue Negro) (2008,  Unrated)
Mud Zombies (Mangue Negro)
Even for a Z movie, I'd expect a storyline and a plot but unfortunately, Mud Zombies doesn't have either. It is basically a man and the girl he is attracted to but never seems to find the right moment to tell her this, running around a shack, then running around a swamp, then another shack, and then a forest, being followed by deadly zombies. Gore is below average and the whole movie lacks imagination.

Oneechanbara: The Movie (Chanbara Beauty)
Katana Splatter.

Have you ever wanted to see a beautiful woman wearing a bikini, feather boa and a cowboy hat slay zombies? (Yes, me too!) If that wasn't good enough, she also has a friend, leather-clad with shotgun, who is equally as beautiful. And then there's her sister too, who is equally... I think you get the picture.

This is another low-budget Japanese hack and slash flick. I've never played the video game but the movie stands well on its own. There's no "weird" element like Tokyo Gore Police, this is a straight-laced hack/slash adventure movie with stylistic visuals and entertaining fight scenes.

Recommended for all zombie fans, others may be disappointed (it isn't Machine Girl).

Last of the Living (2008,  Unrated)
Last of the Living
Last of the Living is a little gem of a comedy zombie movie from New Zealand. As the zombie apocalypse is happening around them, three male friends' method of surviving is to go on the occasional raid into the town for some shopping or to watch a couple of DVDs at home. Nothing really changes until they come across a female survivor (she doesn't help to olbiterate the movie like the female in I Am Legend! Stick to the novella!!) who manages to movitate them into saving the world from the zombie epidemic.

Last of the Living is a zombie movie with slow-moving (yes!) zombies obviously inspired in some respect by Shaun of the Dead and it fits nicely in to the same basket as Return of the Living Dead, Dead Snow, Braindead and the upcoming Zombieland. If you enjoy zombie comedies with slow-moving zombies then this movie is for you.

The accents were a little difficult to understand at times so you may have to rewind a few times until you catch all the dialogue (and that's coming from a Brit who is quite used to hearing lots of Australasian accents!)

Oh, and be sure to watch the alternative ending on the DVD.

Gangs of the Dead (2007,  Unrated)
Gangs of the Dead
Following a meteor shower, the dead start to rise in search of human flesh. The majority of the movie takes place in a warehouse where 2 gangs, 2 police officers and a white-collar worker are seeking refuge. Ultimately, their failure to co-operate with each other and the tension between the two gangs leads to their demise, not the zombies outside. Quite frankly, after 30 minutes in, I was hoping all the characters would be killed as soon as possible by the zombie horde.

Gangs Of The Dead adds absolutely nothing to the zombie genre. It's not smart, it's not funny, it's not even entertaining.

I really don't know if I should give this movie a low rating because of the terrible acting, script, direction, editing etc etc or give a high rating because it is actually very entertaining. Is it an unintentional spoof?

Die You Zombie Bastards
Some genuinely funny moments and clever satire of course. However, not enough tits, not enough ass and not enough zombies. I'm sure it looked great on the storyboard but a poor effects team and lousy direction really let the movie down.

If you are a fan of zombie movies then there's nothing for you here. Zombies in this movie are merely a side plot and the main antagonist uses world zombification as a threat but zombies are not important to the story.

Doghouse (2009,  Unrated)
Doghouse
A group of friends take their divorce-suffering mate away on a short holiday in a remote village in England. Danny Dyer (Neil), who was also in Severance, stars as the sexist leader of men. To use his own words, he and his friends are suffering from "social gender anxiety" and they must discover their "inner bloke."

They head for the small village of Moodley. Shortly after arriving they discover that all the men have disappeared and there's something not quite right about the women of the village. A virus has turned all the women into man-hating zombie cannibals.

"What kind of virus only affects women?"

Neil: "Bird flu." (you may only get that joke if you are British!)

Neil and his friends find themselves overwhelmed with weapon-wielding blood-stained zombie cannibals. Ranging from a hairdresser with dual pairs of scissors to an old lady with a Zimmer frame. Even the zombie status of the women doesn't stop the lads from objectifying them by discussing which one they like the most.

The acting is very good and the script is witty and sharp. Make-up is excellent. Negative aspects are a lack of ideas as we often see the characters run in and out of houses/shops and the ending is unfulfilled but possibly hinting at a sequel. If you can appreciate sexist humour and cannibalistic gore then you should be able to enjoy Doghouse.
