S) Scenes of a disturbing nature
These films are those which have the ability to make you uncomfortable. They are not disturbing films in a horror kind of way, but more often or not in a form of abuse, or horrific true stories.
THIS IS A NEW LIST AND OF COURSE WILL BE ADDED TO ONGOING.

Rohtenburg (Grimm Love) (2007, Unrated)
I have to say, I?ve watched many a Horror and Slasher type film, seen torturous plots and of course I?m a huge fan of Serial Killer films, but I think I finally found my boundary here, as it was a little too sick for my taste. Perhaps it?s the fact that it is based on a true story, that certainly added to the chill of the film, but there was also something very realistic about the last few scenes, that felt a little too voyeuristic. |

Mysterious Skin (2005, NC-17)
I have complete mixed feelings about this film, the beginning made me feel pretty uncomfortable, which I?m sure was it?s aim and made the impact that was needed. |

The Woodsman (2004, R)
Whilst taking on a theme that people usually unite together in hatred against, Kevin Bacon takes on the brave part in possibly his best performance of his career. |

Evilenko (2004, Unrated)
A sinister and gruesome tale based on a true story, well played by Malcolm McDowell. The film starts off with some pretty realistic, uncomfortable viewing which actually brings the reality into this story. It does seem to go on a while and some of the acting (with the exception of McDowell) wasn?t all that good. |

Elephant (2003, R)
Disturbingly realistic and a controversial topic to tackle. Certainly through the first half, it was very mundane and I found it difficult to keep watching, but of course in hindsight it?s certainly worth staying with to feel the impact of the finish. |

Capturing the Friedmans (2003, R)
It?s dvd cover describes this documentary as ?thought provoking?. Even the most open minded of people are probably thinking ?why?? this seems like an open and shut case. |

Irreversible (2002, Unrated)
Told in the tradition of that in "Memento" i.e the storyline is played backwards, the film opens with a very visually dark scene accompanied by a pretty bizarre sound (that's still running through my head!! ha ha), along with some very dizzy filming, the viewer isn't particularly aware of what is going on straight away, but within the first couple of scenes the storyline developes and of course you are intrigued to know, how it all began. |

The Entity (1982, R)
A much older film than I'd expected it to be and not scary like people had made it out to be, however the story through the eyes of the main character is a frustrating one trying to prove that the events are really happening and dealing with the situation at the same time. What's even more amazing is that this is apparently based on a true story. Worth the watch. |

Salo (Salò o le 120 giornate di Sodoma) (1979, NC-17)
Without a doubt the most disturbing film I?ve ever attempted to watch. I tend to watch most films through, just to give it the benefit of the doubt, but had to switch this off, because of it?s uncomfortable imagery. |
