British musicians Duncan Bridgeman and Jamie Catto came up with the idea for 1 Giant Leap after discovering their mutual interest in music, film, philosophy, spirituality, and diversity. The project i...( read more  read more... )s a synthesis of sound, words, and images collected from around the world, with each track growing as they traveled to 25 countries. They went to places like Senegal, Uganda, India, and Thailand, using only laptop computers and a digital video camera. The DVD features music and interviews with mainstream artists like Michael Stipe and Robbie Williams along with a multitude of unknown world musicians from Northern Africa to Southeast Asia. Author Kurt Vonnegut and actor Dennis Hopper also participate, among others. The disc is divided into 12 themes: Time, Confrontation, Sex, Masks, God, Faith, Blasphemy, Unity, Death, Money, Inspiration, and Happy. The film can be viewed in several different modes, according to the viewer's preferences.

    Great music from Asia to Africa with musicians and singers from all over the world mixed together in a perfect match.

    I had the good fortune of a teacher lending me this in high school. It may be the best documentary ever.



    Two British film makers traveled to 25 countries recording pieces of music and then fusing them together via Lap...( read more)-top, and the results are a stunning fusion of world musics and editing. If that weren't enough there's interviews with artists, scientists, religious scholars, mystics, authors (Kurt Vonnegut and Tom Robbins, actors, activists, prostitutes,and people on the street divided into twelve chapters "Time, Confrontation, Sex, Masks, God, Faith, Blasphemy, Unity, Death, Money, Inspiration, and Happiness." Each is broken up into a song, so it's easy to watch in pieces or all the way through. Inspiring music, concepts, and message; the world as instrument and all it's peoples as strings. Should be seen by anyone with an interest in anything.

    It?s a good idea which is why I watched it, except it was awfully nauseating and boring. I really like the idea of music as a truth and universal language ? but MTV would have done a better job showing that than this crap.

    This movie was totally amazing and blows the doors off of any concept you have of a documentary. Duncan and Jamie have put together the movie in 9 broad themes ranging from faith, inspiration, masks, and sex and have brought to the forefront many of the philosophies and music of...( read more) African, Indian, Maori, European and North American culture.
