Strangely enough I watched this film because of Joseph Gordon-Levitt being in it and it was Heath Ledger who was the most likeable. It?s a very cheesy teen flick and if nothing else shows how Joseph Gordon-Levitt has grown as an Actor since making these kind of films.

Perhaps...( read more) one of the more enjoyable teen flicks, but a teen flick all the same.

Walter Stratford: This morning, I delivered a set of twins to a fifteen-year-old girl, do you know what she said to me?
Bianca: "I'm a crack-whore who should have made my skeazy boyfriend wear a condom"?
Walter Stratford: Close, but no. She said, "I should have listened to my f...( read more)ather".
    Bianca: She did not.
Walter Stratford: Well, that's what should would have said if she wasn't so doped up!

An above average high school comedy, due to its witty appeal. Based loosely on Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew, this movie manages to be entertaining every time I watch it.

Walter Stratford: Hello, Katarina. Make anyone cry today?
Kat Stratford: Sadly, no. But it's only 4:30.

Julia Stiles is Kat Stratford, a seemingly bitchy girl, who hates everything and refuses to go out and do fun things. This is bad for her younger sister Bianca, played by Larisa Oleynik, who can't date until Kat does, a rule imposed by her father played hilariously by Larry Miller.

Patrick: What is it with this chick? She have beer-flavored nipples?

The plot kicks in when the new kid in school played by Joseph Gordon Levitt and his friend played by David Krumholtz enlist the infamous school rebel played by Heath Ledger to attempt to take Kat out.

Walter Stratford: [Bianca and Chastity are sneaking past Bianca's father] Shoulda used the window!
    Bianca: Hi Daddy!
Walter Stratford: Hi... where're we going?
Bianca: Well, if you must know... a small study group of friends.
Walter Stratford: Otherwise known as an orgy?
Chastity: Mr. Stratford, it's just a party!
Walter Stratford: And hell is just a sauna.

Things go over well enough, which includes the bad boy and the bad girl actually falling for each other, and other high school conventions ensue.

I've seen this movie once on video and several times on TV, I always seem to end up watching it, because I like this movie. The characters are fun enough, the soundtrack is pretty decent, and the whole thing plays out pretty well.

Walter Stratford: I'm down, I've got the 411, and you are not going out and getting jiggy with some boy, I don't care how dope his ride is. My momma didn't raise no foo'!

This is one of those movies you can watch over and over again and still find new things that you can laugh about. Admittedly, it isn't Heath Ledger's best performance, but it did create a springboard for his career after he had mastered a proper American accent. This is one of th...( read more)e better modern adaptations of Shakespeare, second only to Baz Luhrman's Romeo + Juliet. There are heaps of one-liners in this movie that many people know even without having seen it. This is a fun movie and an enjoyable ride.
DEFINING SCENE ~ Kat Stratford's (Stiles) "plan" for winning the soccer game and at the same time for getting Patrick (Ledger) out of detention. Classic.
