They are used to tell the past, but for a few unlucky individuals, they foretell the future. When Hideki picks up a newspaper he knows what he will see...death. Foretelling ill-omened fate of every...( read more

I'm a huge fan of Asian horror films (I really think that they are very close to perfection in this genre) and when I had the chance to watch this one, I didn't think it twice... now I'm regretting that decision, I fell asleep within the first hour (it had never happened to me before with this kind of films that I love): lack of creativity, so predictable and the "special effects" (which usually are intelligently well thought and very subtle in Japanese movies) were lame and ridiculous, sometimes laughable but in a boring and sarcastic way; honestly very disappointing.
If you like the Ring, you will like this. Not much ghost stuff. All about the lead character trying to investigate the strange newspaper that leads to some scary moments.
Now I'm not at all a fan of horror films... much less would I go look for horror films from Japan but such is the case this time. I rented this one after a friend recommended it. -_- I shouldn't listen when my friends recommend me films... or maybe just horror flicks. It usually means that I'll end up shouting, scared as hell and as always utterly angry for having wasted 95 minutes of my life. Well I suppose this one carries such cheaps scares but frankly this one had a certain emotional depth to it... or emotionally draining. I mean only the first scene was enough to grab my attention and for my jaw to hit the floor.
There goes this nice little singing family on some sort of road trip and they stop by a payphone to get internet service because Dad is working and needs to send some data. And so they stop in the middle of nowhere and Dad is doing his work on the booth while Mom and Daughter wait in car. Dad keeps on waiting and as he waits he notices this very odd newspaper in the booth and picks it up. Of course, this particular newspaper carries some very bad news. It has a story about a little girl who died the day before in a car accident. Strange, isn't it? Even more stranger is when he looks at the picture of this little girl and surprisingly this particular girl has the same name as his... daughter? And she died around 8 PM. *looks at clock* It's about 8:58 PM.
i really liked this movie. it is nothing like the movie of the same name with sandra bullcock that one was not impressive but this one had 'scary' moments
Great J-Horror that, of course, will soon end up slashed into an American version, as most great J-Horror films are doomed to be...Its a familiar story, where time is both irrevelent, but a most important tool. There have been many 'Magick News[paper' plots, but this one, as most asian horror do, deals with a ghost, and a Man trying to prevent what he started...Good twists, and great pace...it makes you think just a tad more about how you may wish to navigate your life...
Gorewhore Out...
A great start and a great finish, but lacked some content in the middle I felt. A good watch all the same.
A newspaper that foretells death in the future appears to a select few with a psychic gift but remains invisible to everyone else. When a father loses his daughter in a car crash he begins to receive the premonitions and must decide whether to try and change the future or stand by and do nothing, finding out that each decision has different, yet fatal consequences. I can honestly say that I have found a J-Horror that doesn't make you scratch your head during the end credits or sigh in disappointment. Second favourite J-Horror (first belonging to Ringu).
I just love Asian horror flicks. Who would ever had thought a news paper page can scare the shit out of u. lol. This one had a few scary scenes its definitly worth the watch. I mean how do u beat a angry spirit? quick answer u can't. The only thing I didn't like is a few times when the husband cried he sounded too much like a woman. but the movie was good over all. (B+)
I thought the movie started slow and the fact that they tried to make a peice of paper be scary was disturbing, and not in a good way. The film did pick up as they began to unraval the mystery of the paper. Ultimaitly the ending did bring the movie together and make it a movie that I liked.
A great story with some genuinely scary moments,a few "what the fuck?" moments and a brilliant story. This is about a man who, through pretty distreesing circumstances, finds out he can forsee the future and starts trying to find ways to change peoples future/destiny.Its well acted, directed and the story is possibly one of the best to come out of the Japanese horror genre for a while.
Beautifully done movie, just about everything about it is perfect. And you really feel for the characters, and you really care for what happens to them. With a really creepy overall atmosphere and excellent acting, yeah. This was a great flick.
Yogen is a well made suspense movie, itīs boring and slow at times but with an interesting and predictible ending.
This was a great one as well....the Japanese are killers when it comes to horror movies that make you think and imagine. Predecessor to the sandra bullock movie.
Never pick up mysterious newspaper that foretells horrs to come! This is before america made tv series of newspaper that can tell things ahead of time and the one chosen to see such newspaper also gets a mysterious cat and the chance to change events before they occur. This japanese movie is creepy and has tragic consequences for those who see the mysterious newspaper.
This movie was good at first, but then we kept noticing flaws and by the end, some things really didn't make sense. Plus the ending could have been much better. So I give 2 stars to a movie that had potential for 4.
After seeing this movie I didn't want to see a newspaper the whole day. This horror film has a great way of playing with your fears. Many people want to know their future, but not know the time of their death. Premonition uses an everyday read, the newspaper, as a foretelling of your death. When a mans daughter dies in a car accident (yet again foretold) he makes it his sole mission in life to find this newspaper and then you see the ending affects of his actions. Premonition made me proud to love horror films!
I KNOW I reviewed this already, I own it, for gosh sake! Its just ok: good visuals & clever ending, but Im sure its much, much better then the remake with SB.
I really liked this version of "Premonition" better than the one with Sandra Bullock. It just makes more sence.
i should take me hat off for Bullock, you're amazing girl!!!!
this is definetly a great wonderful film!
A very surprising Asian horror film to be sure. Less horror and more of an intense thriller. I even liked the ending which is rare.
Good film. Interesting ideas but got a tad weird towards the end. Not seen the US remake and dont really want to
Sweet Japanese Horror flick....and not the Japanese version of the Sandra Bullock Premonition, but would make an excellent American film!!
20/03/07 - What's with Sandra Bullock and this particular type of film that involves time bending. Saying that though I did find this film to be one worth watching, giving the lack of other films to see at the time. The story was pretty solid and Sandra does offer a very good performance but the end of the film... maaaad.
