Not really my type of the Movie. I tried to stay awake while watching it, but at last I slept. Dont get me wrong I like Epic Movies, and I heard many great stuff about this Movie, though myself didnt enjoy it, but my Husband watched it to the End.
if i could give this film a million stars i would. this is by far my favorite movie of all time. Zheng Ziyi is once again a spoiled princess and Jung Woo-Sung a slave trying to save her. Love, Battles, Death and sexy asian men make this a film to watch.
Fast and bloody action, complex characterization and subtle character interactions, great cinematography, ferocious battles and insights into death, glory and the human condition that would do Kurosawa, or even Homer, proud.
Just don't expect "wire-fu" because Ziyi Zhang (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) and Yu Rong Guang (Iron Monkey) are in it. There's enough sword play, spear fighting and archery that the "wire fu" isn't missed. The third act drags a bit but there's enough action to keep one entertained.![]()
Fantastic South Korean/Chinese co-production. Very well done. Worth watching specially because of Zhang Ziyi :P Violent and heroic as it should be.
81/100
Musa The Warrior is one of those films that is not exactly a war movie and it is not exactly a martial arts epic. It is more in between. Yes, this is a good movie, but Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon it is not. While the story is pretty good it isn't all that deep, which isn't good for a movie that is 2 hours and 15 minutes long. This movie is slow with a decent amount of action, but with the long runtime this film drags on and is a bit bland and a little boring. There are a good amount of supporting characters, which is a plus, and this helps from always seeing the same minimal faces all the time. It just takes a little too long to build them all up.
The action is lord of the ringesque, which means there isn't any fancy martial arts swordplay. Most of the time it is large groups of people colliding in these epic type of battles on horseback. This is actually OK, if you think about it, because this style fits nicely into the story. The last 40 minutes is a drawn out battle at a fortress. This sets up a dramatic ending.
The fights aren't entirely bloody, but this film makes good use of it. The way the blood splatters as people are cut and shot is well done and seemingly realistic, like most of the fights.
One of the better aspects of this film is the acting. Zhang Ziyi is great to see on screen, but with her not participating in the action sequences, it is a little disappointing. Sung-kee Ahn gives the best performance and Yu Rongguang is a good Mongol. He has the perfect goatee going on.
If you like epic types of stories while not really caring about fancy action, then this film is what you are looking for.
Epic action movie with lots of fighting. There's nothing balletic or poetic about the (many) fight scenes - they are far more realistic than in, say, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon or House of Flying Daggers. Arms and heads get chopped of and when people get stabbed in the gut they actually bleed. It's spectacular, but there's so much of it that it gets tiresome after a while. Zhang Ziyi is the star attraction, but she doesn't take part in any of the action. All she has to do here is be royal and cute. The ending of the movie isn't very satisfactory either.
I was impressed with this movie. Great cinematography and an interesting story helped the lack for Ziyi Zhang in any action scenes.
As much as I love watching Zhang Ziyi beat the crap out of people I think I will avoid this one because quite frankly, it looks mundane and boring.
The ending of the movie is very sad. The movie has a lot of action and violence. I especially liked the main characters. If you like dramas and asian films, definitely give this movie a try.
Such a dark story but action packed film. Musa is an amazing, strong character. He takes on task of protecting the spoiled princess, taking her to the place where she thought she and her people'd be safe but it turned out the destinated place was deserted and now turns into their grave, that is unless they stop the army that wants the princess. I'm glad to have watched this film.
I love foriegn movies, and this was one of the best kept secrets for the best period film taking place in 1375 China. Believable, completly real!
A disparate collection of travellers, including soldiers, diplomats, and refugees are thrown together in 14th century china, pursued by the mongol army. Known as The Warrior in the UK, this historical epic inevitably draws comparison to Hero and House of Flying Daggers, but actually is more in the tradition of Kurosawa than those more fantasy based offerings. It's a beautifully crafted historical adventure with just the right balance of heroism and believability, with beautifully shot locations and grippingly realistic battle sequences. Bichunmoo walked the walk but didn't quite have the edge to mix it with the big boys, but this is in a different league. Another reason why I think Korea is making the most exciting cinema in the world at the moment.
Unfortunately I couldn't watch the whole movie. I think when a movie is that long (almost 3 hours) it should be a very engaging movie so you have a good reason for sitting around for such a long time. This movie just wasn't engaging enough for me. I made it just shy of the 2 hour mark before I started to get bored so that's something, I guess
This is a very good movie. The costumes are great and the battle scenes are really gory. Story line is good too.
This Korean attempt at an historical epic is fine as far as it goes, but it could have been so much better.
Very good story line. Kept me in awe the whole time. Very violent, however. Jung Woo Sung and Zhang Ziyi are riveting in this movie. Reminded me somewhat of the Alamo. . .
Watched this at least 5 times and i STILL dont know what the hell is going on. Very good action though.
Worth seeing for the ridiculously invincible title hero.... just want to see him fight the main characters of Hero and Crouching Tiger...
This movie is BIG. Big in scope, production, research & history. The clothing worn by the warriors is extravagant & elegantly reminiscent of the great glory days of the East. The characters were passionate, & sincere. There prevailed overall a high quality & interesting storyline peppered with many battles brutally fought; seemingly for naught.
Not for the faint of heart, this film pays homage to a bygone era & of loyalties rarely seen today. I give it 5 stars for the production & look of the film, but only 3 stars for the slow, ponderous telling of the story & pace of the movie.
In 1375, China was in chaos between Yuan Dynasty and Ming Dynasty. Coryo (an ancient kingdom of Korea then) sent a delegation of many diplomats, soldiers and a silent slave to make peace with the new Chinese government. However, this delegation got charged as spies and sent in exile to a remote desert. On the way the group came across a Yuan troop, and the Coryo soldiers managed to survive the battle. They began the journey toward the faraway home country, where they met the Yuan troop again. When they found out the Yuan troop kidnapped a Ming princess, they decided to rescue her so that they could get a ship to go home. Then the battle began. . . . .
Very good film, largely unknown but one of Zhang Ziyi best films. A must see film. A great ancient war film.
If you don't mind reading subtitles I highly recommend this movie, it has a wonderful story and great action.
So sad end with this story but if you watch it three times maybe you will learn to like it and understand it better. I would have wished this movie to be more romantic with kissing included. ;)
