Just saw it. AWESOME!! If you are a true fan of this genre, run-don't walk, to see this flick asap. (and you might wanna try to get home before dark..) he he. The setting is bleak and sufficiently creepy. The concept is absolute genius and the effects are state of the art. Vampir...( read more)e imagery is rarely portrayed in so savage a style without coming off as violence for violence' sake or just another attempt at the gross-out factor. Kudos to the filmmakers for (by all accounts) staying true to the graphic novel from which the movie was derived. I have read the graphic novel and it's truly stick to it.

Loved the lighting and the brutality. Second-best vampire movie I've ever seen. It's like 28 Days Later but with vampires.

Not bad vamp flick, not really scary or spooky but very bloody n gorey. The story and location is slightly original and it looks good, very slick but it kinda reminds me of AvP, the vamps aren't really like vamps more like aliens or creatures and not really effective for me. Thei...( read more)r look isn't too good but the leader of them looks quite good, different from the usual long haired look. It is very bleak and dark but the Artic location just doesn't work with vamps. There's nothing too special with the cast either, also the ending, killing the leader, how did he do it?? makes no sense really, average.

I loved the premise for this film when I first heard about it- a town that's almost to the roof of the world and doesn't see the sun for 30 days is attacked by vampires. I loved this concept. I thought it was going to be a monumental film in the horror genre without sparkling vam...( read more)pires. Sadly, I was wrong.

The casting was alright. John Hartnett becomes more of a lead playing the sheriff who is leading the remaining inhabitants in survival against the blood thirsty creatures. Melissa George plays his estranged wife, so you know where that relationship is leading. The rest of the cast is filled in nicely. The problem is really in the execution of the idea.

Now I know that this was based on a comic book. I understand that. The problem I come up with is mainly the vampires. I went in expecting suave, elegant, Lugosi like vamps but am treated to a cross between Dawn of the Dead and I Am Legend. They just seemed so much like those creatures that my mind kept screaming "rip off". As a film this is a mildly acceptable piece that hinges more on horror than any actual tension. It's a film where you sit there wondering who's going to get sucked on (or devoured) next. An idea with so much promise that doesn't have any fuel in the tank.

Is it flawed? Yes. Could it have been better? Yes. Did I enjoy the film anyway? Indeed I did and to be honest that's all that matters. Sure this is just a basic blend of films like THE THING, 28 DAYS LATER and PITCH BLACK but as long as you don't think about the many implausibili...( read more)ties in the film you should come away entertained.

I love the different take on Vampires in this film. Although I still love my romantic, hot vampires, this was a refreshing view.

The film is scary and creates great tension and suspense. Most of the time I didn't know what was gonna happen and how they would solve a problem and try to survive, which is an excellent element in the movie. Danny Huston gives an horrifying performance as the leader of the pack...( read more) of vampires. One thing that is interesting is that these in some respects are not the typical vampires we are accustomed to. They are more animal-like and there is nothing "pretty" or "idealized" about them. The ending is pretty shocking and it really pleased my expectations.

That was awesome... NOT! Although the ending worked well and the gore level was sufficient, the entire film was not exactly to my liking. Poor acting (Josh Hartnett you're my nemesis) and not at all scary, I think that qualifies for one of the most pointless comic adaptations of ...( read more)all times.

it's a good film although parts don't make all that much sense in the real world :)) there are memorable moments and a sad ending which shouldn't have been so however throughout the WHOLE film there is someone you just have to hate and thats the girl (no i can't remember her name...( read more) i just know that i hated her :Z) it has a kind of assault on precinct 13 thing going on but over all not a bad movie but not Josh Hatnetts best :))xx
