In which movie does Josh Hartnett play a small-town sheriff in Alaska (this movie also features a bunch of funny-language-speaking blood-thirsty vampires)? But it actually was a bit scary at places, at least scarier than The Happening, the previous horror film I went to see at the cinema.
The make-up and creature design was excellent. The face of the leading vampire is still in my mind. I am not sure if I buy the plot-twist at the end, I am not sure I am completely convinced by the acting of Josh Hartnett, it seems rather uninvolved at times.
Erm, absolute crap. One good scene, rest is just so so so far below average. I'd say it's worth watching for one scene towards the middle because it's quite amusing if you're a dark person, but the rest is so unfulfilling. I mean a HORDE of vampires and a town plunged into darkness for 30 days, what could be a bad film out of that? - Well watch this.
Not a horrible movie. I liked it overall though I probably won't watch it again anytime soon. Im not a big fan of Josh Hartnett, but he did a good job in his role. Good supporting staff. OBvious ending.
I found this one to be a clever and original film in its genre. The film had some truly astonishing cinematography (like the aerial shot when the vampires attacked the town etc) and special effects. Can't recall when was the last time I saw cool decapitations like the ones featured here..
The acting was the lamest thing here, with overacting by several actors. The vampires were featured in a truly creepy way and I would've liked to know more about 'em.
But it still remains as a very enjoyable film and definitely one of the best vampire flicks in years.
Not what i wanted. It was violent and made me jump but overall just didn't deliver. It was dark and bloody....but it brought nothing new or special to the picture.
I was disapointed with this film, it seemed like a B movie to me..The monsters looked like they were at a pet shop boys reuniun concert. (I apologise to pet shop boy fans lol)
I finally got the courage to rent this movie this past week. What a horrific bone-chiller.With Josh Harnett playing the knight in shining armor there to rescue the town from the blood-sucking vampires. All in all it was an okay movie. With a very sad ending.
Little better than average vamp movie. The great acting by the primarys, and the unusual plot, made it good.
Since I am from Alaska - made me ....wistful....for Alaska.
Dang, I thought this movie was going to be pretty freaky. And, turns out after I was done watching it, I didn't think it was that bad. It wasn't what I had expected the movie to be like, but it was pretty good. It's worth watching if your into the whole 'survive until the very last moment' type of thing. The ending was pretty predictable. It was his only choice to risk his life to save his, I believe, ex-wife and the little girl. Not the greatest ending but it was okay. I enjoyed it better than other freaky movies.
Despite some flaws in vampire logic, and basic human needs, this was an awesome flick, a great addition to the vampire film genre. It is nice to see a vampire movie done in the Dawn of the Dead or 28 Days Later style, with still some kind of cohesion...(read more) and class. I would have like the vampires to have been completely silent, their dialogue seemed forced and didn't really add anything to the film. I would have liked a little more background before the events begin, but not necessarily on the origns of the vampires. If you love vampire movies you have to give in the fact that you won't always know where they come from, and there in lies the fun. I love the lack of romanticism in the actions and movements of the vampires. The last half hour was awesome, and I for one have found new love for an old pretty face, Hartnett, to see him in a dramatic role. Love the film, despite its flaws.
A good solid acition/horror film which is willing to be dark and gory unlike so many horror films in today's cinematic climate and at least it's not a remake!
You know? I thought that this would be good..........but I didn't think it would be as good as it was. Gory and bloody as ANYTHING I have ever seen (and believe me, I have seen plenty) and pretty doggone creepy. LOL. This was a very decent new take on vampires (as if vampire films needed more "new takes"), and is definitely not your father's vampire flick. But this is NOT for the kiddies.
So bloody scary!
I found myself frequently sinking in my sofa and hiding behind my blanket.
Omg though Hartnett is so hunk and buff! All the creatures, that I want to call, vampires? they were f*cking scary dude!
