the real thing is so much better, this story makes history seem like a silly video game, when in fact it was such an amazing piece of true history.

Great action. Great story telling. So epic.
So many hot men with no shirts =P Ladies you'll like it for that haha. -
Sacrifices accuracy for spectacle, kind of like the ancient Greek tales like the Iliad or Odyssey, I suppose.

300 is the epic retelling of the 300 spartans that took on the persian army. The graphic novel was adapted by no other then Frank Miller back in 1998. since then it has been in talks of a movie and Zack Snyder was the man for the job.
Zack Snyder cast Gerard Butler and many other actors to get in tip top shape for the very roles they were to play. They exercised for months in getting in shape and Snyder trained alongside them with the help from top professional trainers.
The film also called for extreme usage of state of the art HD cameras which cought the films picture clarity well. I was overall impressed with the stunts, set designs as well as the CGI that was used throughout the production of the film.
This was a cleverly made film and is personally one of my favorite action oriented films around. -
On of the best movies that I have ever seen. You have to understand the beliefs of the people at thhere place in time to really get in to it.

Well hello! Eye-candy movie... Men, a lot of men. Men fighting in speedos (hahaha!) in the mud.. Me like very much! And that Gerald Butler has stolen my heart, he is just so talented! 300, P.S I love you, The phantom of the Opera. They are all so different.. but I must say that I love his body in this one.. hello 12-pack!

The spartans, a group famous for encouraging children to have homosexual acts to create better fighters, and being well known for their feminine attributes (braiding each others hair) have been glorified as hardened men in this film. I wouldn't mind had not the slow motion fighting scenes bored the hell out of me. The film The 300 Spartans is a lot better film, with the cast having the rare ability to act (not actors fault in 300 more film structure). If you want a good epic you should watch Gladiator, Troy or Braveheart, the fight scenes are alot more impressive.

300 is perhaps one of the greatest movies I've ever seen. Constant battle sense make it impossible to get boring. Decapitations and dismemberments make this movie one for the books. Also this movie takes you inside what ancient Sparta may have looked like and how things were done in that time period. I'm excited for the upcoming 300 project in 2010 or 2011.

This movie was well done for Gerard Butler. But overall the visual affects were pretty good but not realistic. Overall i would give it a B-

Movies don't get much cooler than this. It is a guy movie through and through, but its not some mediocre piece of crap. It is actually rather inspiring to watch these men take on an army over 30 times their size. The look of the movie is very unique in itself. Taking techniques from Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow and Sin City to form another great movie almost completely computer generated outside of the actors. The end is very good, but many which it happened differently. Though I know from experience, that if it did happen differently, people would want it to end the way it did.

I was shocked to find out that the working title of this film wasn't "300 abuses of slow-motion photography". I have often wondered if Stanley Kubrick would've used slow-motion any differently if he could have seen how many desperate unoriginal filmmakers were going to steal it and use it as their only photographic trick. There are right ways and wrong ways to use the technical and aesthetic innovations of past influential filmmakers, and in my eyes this entire movie is a BAD example. Zack Snyder is a corporate 'director for hire' disguising himself as a visionary film-auteur, and his adaptation of Frank Miller's engrossing graphic novel is a tedious and turgid bore. I suppose a pretentious and self consciously artsy fartsy filmmaker could create great work - IF they were not relying on recycled stylizations, computers, and could manage to actually focus on the themes they were pretending to explore. I can't believe this Hollywood shit Zack Snyder got the filming rights to Alan Moore's mind-boggling graphic novel masterpiece "Watchmen" - probably one of the best works of literature of the 1980's. Cant wait to see what kind of a conceptual disaster he'll craft for us. I think it's really sad that, so far, Alan Moore has been poorly adapted to the screen by wildly unimaginative filmmakers. "300" is probably the gayest most unintentionally homo-erotic use of green-screen technology ever.

300 (2007)
Directed by Zack Snyder
Starring Gerard Butler, Lena Headay, David Wenham, Dominic West, Vincent Regan, Rodrigo Santoro«Messenger: Choose your next words carefully, Leonidas. They may be your last as king.
King Leonidas: [to himself: thinking] "Earth and water"?
[Leonidas unsheathes and points his sword at the Messenger's throat]
Messenger: Madman! You're a madman!
King Leonidas: Earth and water? You'll find plenty of both down there.
Messenger: No man, Persian or Greek, no man threatens a messenger!
King Leonidas: You bring the crowns and heads of conquered kings to my city steps. You insult my queen. You threaten my people with slavery and death! Oh, I've chosen my words carefully, Persian. Perhaps you should have done the same!
Messenger: This is blasphemy! This is madness!
King Leonidas: Madness...? THIS... IS... SPARTA!
[Kicks the messenger down the well]»In the midst of the Persian-Greco war, Spartan King Leonidas leads his army of 300 soldiers into battle against the invading Persian army during the Battle of Thermopylae. They must face thousands of Persian soldiers in order to protect their country and to keep the name of the most unbeatable soldiers in the Greece if not in the whole world. According to legend, their valor and sacrifice inspired all of Greece to unite against the Persian foe, leading to the origins of democracy. Their task however looks like a doom for all of them.
Let me get it straight, this film based on a novel and not on a historical event. People complaining about it being inaccurate but hang on, it's not a documentary, it's a film which is full of gore, fighting and epic battles. It is probably one of the best war films of 2007. It has everything in it. The battle scenes are probably the best I have seen in a while. They were nice and clear, full of gore which is what the real battle should have in it. The costumes was perfectly chosen and matched up with the fighting atmosphere. The whole fighting idea was nice and made sense so it gets all the top marks here.
Acting was great too: Gerard Butler was on top with a strong performance and he showed some good acting attributes especially during the battle scenes. Lena Headay was the only primary female character in this film and she played her role well, especially towards the end of the film. The story was told by one of the Spartans called Dilious, who was played by David Wenham and he was the perfect man for the role, especially after his last performance that I have seen in Lord of the Rings. He did well and his narrating skills impressed me. Other actors were on top and I especially liked Vincent Regan: his performance was very emotional and he was a perfect actor to play his character.
What mostly disappointed me was the actual storyline. First of all, the warriors: who are they? Do we get to know about their lives and their thoughts, their strengths and weaknesses? Do we know what goes through their minds when they are about to die? No we don't, so we can't really feel for them going to the last battle of their life and probably getting killed in process. If they die how will this affect their families? Do we even know about their families? We don't get to know all that and their lives left as a secret for the audience and it lets this film down by happening so. The only character the film builds on is Leonidas, but that's not enough. He is the king but what about the warriors? Surely they deserve to be known as well don't they? After all, they fought for the safety of their people and surely should be somehow mentioned. We need to know the characters in order to understand them but we don't even get a chance to do so in this film.
Despite that, Zack Snyder did an outstanding job in creating this film. I can't see it being made any better in terms of graphics; it's just perfect in this category. With the budget of 60m this film made 7 times more money which makes it a huge success. It showed what a war film should be really like, no matter if it's accurate or not. After all, it isn't a real story; it is based on a graphic novel which was written by Frank Miller. Zack Snyder created a breathtaking and simply outstanding film.

my son talked me into seeing this movie before I knew what the movie was about, then when the movie started all the blood and killing, didn't think I wanted to see this movie with my son, didn't even know how it was rated..(little bugger, hit it from me) anyway, then I saw men in short shorts and thought 'nice' some really cool bodies to watch, but understood the movie far beyond that and loved it to the end..it was such an excellent movie..

Great looking movie, beautiful scenery, hot nearly naked men. Soooo boring. I like action movies, but i couldn't handle all the yelling and "SPARTA!!!" & "HUH HUH" all the time. After the first two fight scenes I was done.

This movie was really REALLY good! I didn't think I'd like it this much but it's a cool movie! Great action, beautifully directed and an interesting story.
-
Intense, violent, graphic, powerful & epic! Excellent cinematography, awesome cast. Just brilliant! I highly rate this movie.

my apoligies to all who have been victim to my plentiful hateful wall posts on their admiration of this film... for i must say after watching it a second time, and then quickly followed by a third i must say this film is quite brilliant. The action sequences are nothing to scoff at, and though the plot back in Sparta is not as up to par as the rest of the movie, it is adequate enough to keep the movie rolling. The ending is probably my favourite part with his shield and helmet, and the dialogue (as being a fan of the comic prior to the announcement that this was to be a film) is true Frank Miller "Sin City" -esque and is truly amazing. Gerard Butler was quite good, and the supporting cast was quite well casted. All in all a class-A rompin stompin action flick!

Riveting. I could hardly move in my seat. The blood splashes kept me at about a foot away from the tube, but that and the nightmares that came afterwards were all well worth it...
I wonder how grand they have dined in hell... Hm.. -
Not my kind of film but it was better than I was expecting... quite similar in style to Sin City... a lot more of a supernatural element to it than I was expecting as well..
-
No words can describe how I feel about this movie...
Except maybe...
Surround System, pop corn, soda, and no bathroom breaks! What else can be said! -
