Disturbing... Wow, the lengths that people took is insane. I'm telling you that this really had a true friendship reality to it.

A controversial and interesting topic, which unfortunately is incredibly drawn out. It's very well acted and had the content been squeezed down every so slightly, this could have made a brilliant short film.

It's a disturbing movie that will push a lot of hot buttons because of its' straight-ahead treatment of the subject matter. The lead, Anamaria Marinca, gives one of those understated performances, typical of European cinema, as we watch her go from plucky to exploited, violated ...( read more)and emotionally overwhelmed. A Hollywood movie could never address this subject matter so directly and, even if it could, it's hard to imagine that it would take such an emotionally involved yet politically detached view. It would add a popular hollywood face in the lead for the audience in a cheap attempt to pull at the heartstrings faster rather than an everyday woman. Taking place over the course of a single day, Mungiu's film is a real work of modern filmmaking that will stay with you long after.

    10/10

Technically released in 2007, that year's palme d'Or winner was released here in the States in early 2008. I can still remember the feeling of this film slowly but surely creeping up on me as though taking me by the neck, slowly tightening, not letting go until long after ...( read more)it was all over."Intense and gut-wrenching," that doesn't begin to adequately describe this film. It is effective in ways I never knew film be.

The purest cinema you will ever see.Of course not everyone's cup of tea.Maybe there is only a milion people who can love this on the earth. But if you dont like the movie,it is atill a success for it.For example, when Kieslowski's "A short movie about Killing" showed in the Cannes ...( read more)Festival many people left the theater before it ends. But for Kieslowski, that is what it needs to be.Still i cant recommend you to watch this with your friends or parents.

daqueles filmes que te trucidam com a realidade crua e impactante. é isso e não há o que fazer.

A really tough movie.not for everyone.....an absolutely mind-blowing realization, one piece of great acting ,one brilliant and non-Hollywood director, one country you expect the worst about, one era where such things were common, but hidden to the simple eye and voila the recipe for ...( read more)a great movie....mungiu's movie so different from anything else i have seen before i absolutely couldn't get my mind off it for hours after leaving the cinema....some might dismiss it for the long scenes, but i think the reason why they were used was because of its naturalism - you have the impression like you are watching the drama happening, but you can't interfere.it tackles an embarrassing and shocking subject and so it hurts our aesthetic eye,but it's one kick that could wake you up to reality : life is never as pretty and doesn't always have a Hollywood happy ending.i still wonder : "would i ever do what anamaria marinca's character is doing?". it's a great story of sacrifice in the name of friendship, and not a story on communism and abortion.

Starting with 1966, the Ceausescu regime banned abortion and introduced other policies to increase the very low rate and fertility rate. Abortion was permited only in special cases, so a considerable number of women either died or were maimed during clandestine abortion.
This de...( read more)mographic policy affected the peoples intimate lives, fear, self hatered and unwanted children were aspects of quotidian before the fall of communism in 1989.
"4 luni, 3 saptamani si 2 zile" is about an illegal abortion that takes place in 1987.
The movie was a winner in Cannes, receiving another prizes along the way, starting some kind of frenzy in my country, so I tried to keep the distance, but when I had the chance to see it, I did just that.
I don't know if it is a masterpiece, but is really good. I would've give it a 5, but some aspects of this movie I found quite disturbing and I got angry at the girls passivity.
Gabita is pregnant in 4 months, so she seeks the help of Domnu' Bebe, who in return for his "services" wants Gabita and her best friend, Otilia, to sleep with him. My mind was saying :"throw the bastard out and hand him to the police!" , insted Gabita begs him not to go and agrees to his conditions. Really!? This and the next scenes are disturbing and sickening, the girls passivity made me angry and indignant.
I liked the dialog and the actors performance, just brilliant ( I hate mister Bebe! ). A really good movie, indeed.

I liked this movie. Cristian Mungiu is a very smart and talented director. On the Filmmaker site he talks about making the movie.

either in this way, you would NOT been impressed. communism wasn't just about the prohibition of abortion and meanings of screwing the system. it was about much more, much more horrifying that was presented in Mungiu's movie. this is (sadly), just the story of a poor, unlucky girl that gets knocked up...

I guess you have to feel concerned in some way in order to really appreciate this movie. If you lived in that period of time in Romania, or heard stories from relatives you will not be indifferent to this.
