Sameer (Madan Deodhar) is a studious boy from Pune who dreams of going to college and accomplishing great things when he's older. Sameer is pen pals with his cousin Nachiket (Alok Rajwade), and when the two meet at a family wedding, they become fast friends. However, while Sameer is ambitious and outgoing, Nachiket is more hesitant and introspective, and he doesn't have a clear notion of what he wants to do with his life. When it's proposed that Nachiket attend a school in Pune, he seems wary of the idea, which offends Sameer, who imagines his friend is rejecting him. When Sameer decides to pay a visit to his cousin to patch things up, he learns that Nachiket has died, having drowned while swimming. No one can say for certain if Nachiket's death was an accident or suicide, and Sameer has trouble dealing with the loss as well as his conscience. Vihir (aka The Well) was an official selection at the 2009 Pusan Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
