Ever since Dr. Drew Carter (Fair)'s son was killed in a devastating auto crash, his family has been slowly drifting apart. His wife Julia (Musetta Vander), who was driving at the time, has never been able to forgive herself, and their daughter Kayla (Aubyn Cole) has become emotionally withdrawn. But just when it begins to look like all hope for a happy future is lost, Dr. Carter receives a telephone call from Dr. Miller (Majors), who convinces him to become a foster parent to Johnny (Jerry Phillips), a young boy who suffers from leukemia, and who lost his mother in a drunk driving accident.
