Rambling mishmash about a pair of cavemen who go on a journey after being banished from their primitive village. Disorganized mess is a lazily written buddy film without cohesion. No plot, but more or less a series of tepid jokes united by biblical events. Frequently wallows i...( read more)n disgusting gross out humor. Makes director Mel Brooks' similarly vulgar spoof History of the World, Part I seem like sophisticated satire by comparison. Only actor Oliver Platt as a high priest manages to illicit a few chuckles. Director Harold Ramis, who also co-wrote this dreck, hits rock bottom. Desperate.

Year One is the latest movie starring Jack Black. It is basically the story of the world since the beginning of time through the eyes of two cavemen. It has some funny moments and I hate to say it because I'm a big Jack Black fan but in general the movie its just plain and simpl...( read more)e. The story isn't that interesting and the plot is kinda flat. The cast is good Jack Black as always is hilarious, he is the best one in the movie, Michael Cera is simply awful, I don't know but this guy has no personality and beside Black he simply disappears. Olivia Wilde, better known as 13 in House, is quite decent, Oliver Platt as the High Priest is very good and David Cross as Cain is very funny. In conclusion, Year One could be a very funny movie but it wasn't. anyway if you want to see it do it.

4 letters here ROFL. A comedy for today, with some true gag reflex needed to stop you laughing in that way everyone hates (you know that kind of laugh) . So if your sad, depressed, bored or unhappy, have a go at watching this to cheer you up

I gave this 2.5 stars for being more amusing than I thought it was going to be.
While not a total bomb it fell pretty flat with obvious jokes and some really lackluster performances. It seemed as if even the cast was pretty bored with the material they were being asked to deliv...( read more)er.
That being said, there were some "laugh out loud" moments. Enough of them that I actually wanted to see if they would push it just that much further given that I was watching the unrated version.
    They didn't.
It wasn't completely awful, but it just was not good.
We could have had some burning chili going with the concept and the actors, but cold chicken broth was what got served.
See it if you are bored...or sleepy.

Un poco tonta la verdad...y demasiadas bromas "sexuales" para mi gusto...pero en fin, el papel de Michael Cera si que me gustó fue bastante gracioso ;P

This was so stupid. The olny thing that made it bearable was Michael Cera....

Plot, check. Hollywood stars, check. Crazy budget that could feed a whole starving country for eternity, check. Script, who needs a script? Obviously Hollywood is so great all they have to do is throw some "funny" people in a movie. Then tell us its a "funny" movie, slap a title ...( read more)on it and we go see it.

Many critics say that Year One was the worst movie of 2009, but I disagree with them. Jack Black and Michael Cera made me laugh throughout the movie and maybe, they can do it with you.
