This is an outstanding motion picture telling the powerful story of the rise & fall, then subsequent triumphant rise again of Dr. John Nash. Russell Crowe is outstanding as the compelling lead. Jennifer Connelly delivers a memorable performance as well giving brave portrayal of Nash's wife, which earned her a well-deserved Oscar. Yet the major credit for this well-crafted motion picture is the inventive collaboration of director Ron Howard's vision with the skilled production talents of Brian Grazer who took home Oscar that same year for Best Director and Best Picture respectively. Through their collective efforts they utilized Akiva Goldsman's Oscar winning screenplay in a clever and imaginative way to transform this sympathetic yet complex story into a delightful, pleasing to the eye treat that will engage all that screen this powerful biography of a brilliant yet flawed professor.

A great movie that starts from a man who is a genius, to a person who believes he needs to uncover a plot.

I saw this when it came out, with my mom, in the theater. You could say it was a psychological thriller, but at the same time the story had so much depth, and when Jennifer Connelly comes into the picture, at around the time when you would never guess there to be a romantic lead,...( read more) they immediately compliment each other with their own complexities and uniqueness. It doesn't take long for you to start caring for the couple immensely. The fact that they dont let you in on Johns condition right away, even after they do, the story is presented in a way to make you side with John and believe him. In any case both sides of the spectrum are equally dramatic and terrifying. It's good to have such a movie that really explains what it's like to have schizophrenia, by putting you in that situation. You see what he see's and you feel what he feels. Russell Crowe is genius in this, literally.

A schizophrenic mathematical genius is too much of a plot for Howard. However, his second best film effectively hits the nail. It is still very sentimentalist, but a good cast and a remarkable leading role make up for the film's typically "Howard" faults. Let's label it as cliché...( read more)d brilliance.

such a beautiful, heart-wrenching story. The isolation, desperation and passion of the characters is portrayed so incredibly well. Great acting - in particular from Crowe and Connelly. well deserving of the four oscars it was awarded.

This film was the bomb!!!!!! This has such a touching and mysterious story, and i thought it was a really good story to work with. It had a lot of fascinating parts to it. The cast is outstanding. There was no one bad in this movie. Russell Crowe was superb as John, he played his...( read more) role with such skill and gave such a powerful performance. Jennifer Connelly was the winner here with her role as Aliesha. She was the most interesting character. This woman who falls in love with her teacher, gets married with him, then to have to deal with his mental problem. There's so much terrific character development and i loved the relationship between John and Aliesha. I did detect some plot holes - but it didn't matter because I just forgot about them as the film went on. Truly is a great epic.

Brilliant. Well-crafted. Stunning. Beautiful. The film was amazing! One of the best biopics ever. All the actors were great! Russell Crowe showed a really admirable and awesome performance. Ron Howard is such a magnificent director. The screenplay was also really beautiful. No wonder it bagged its Oscar. I would never regret I bought the DVD. I waited for such a long time to watch this, and I'm happy I did. It was never boring for me though it seems that it is for some. It has a wonderful way of connecting to its audience. I really felt the sadness and adversities John Nash went through. I really love the film! It is an exceptional motion picture which shows that what matters most is not what is stuck inside your head, but the power you have in your heart. It is a film that grabbed me to the soul!

    The probl
...( read more)em that John Nash writes on the blackboard in his lecture is a real one (unlike in other movies, where math on boards is usually either too simple or fake). There is an important theorem in mathematical physics that directly says the answer to this is 1. Later, when he discusses the problem with Alicia, he makes additional restrictions for the solution, without which the problem is much harder, so he is pretty confident she didn't solve it.

Nash is the subject of the Hollywood movie A Beautiful Mind, which was nominated for eight Academy Awards (winning four). The film, based very loosely on the biography of the same name, focuses on Nash's mathematical genius and his struggle with paranoid schizophrenia.

Accordi...( read more)ng to the Writers Guild, Goldsman's "omissions are glaring and peculiar", including Nash's "extramarital sexual activities, his racial attitudes and anti-Semitic remarks. Nash later claimed any anti-Semitic remarks must have been made while he was delusional.
In the mid-1950s Nash was arrested in a Santa Monica restroom on a morals charge related to an alleged homosexual encounter and "subsequently lost his post at the RAND Corporation along with his security clearance." According to Nasar, "After this traumatic series of career-threatening events, he decided to marry.
Nasar stated that the filmmakers had "invented a narrative that, while far from a literal telling, is true to the spirit of Nash's story." Others suggested that the material was "conveniently left out of the movie in order to make Nash more sympathetic,"possibly in an effort to more fully focus on the "debilitating longevity" of living with paranoid schizophrenia on a day-to-day basis.Contrary to the film, Nash claims to have never had visual hallucinations.

As a nurse, I was touched by this story... Definitely realistic... The heart and mind of a woman who surrenders to a man who has psychiatric disorder is quite a difficult task. She may have had a divorce with this guy, but with this I appreciated that "love really conquers all."

This is a well made movie about the true story of John Nash, a semi-famous mathematician. In the first part of the movie he seems like just an eccentric genius. In the second half of the movie you learn that much of what seemed to him as real were just his hallucinations. Russell...( read more) Crowe plays John Nash and does an excellent job of portraying a man with mental illness. Jennifer Connelly plays his wife and is hot. The real Mrs. Nash was cute when she was young, but there was no way a crazy dude was going to hook-up with someone as hot as Jennifer Connelly. Especially since the real John Nash didn't look like Russell Crowe. But then who goes to a movie to see ugly people. They did a pretty good job of explaining John Nash's complicated mathematical theorems in a simplified way that the average person could understand. It's a serious movie about a serious subject and it did win an Oscar. I bought the VHS tape at Hollywood Video as a Christmas present for my Mother and Father. My Dad was a math teacher and I thought they might like it.

Jennifer Connelly is also quite good as Nash's loving and supportive wife-my only complaint is that I wish her role had been bigger and more complex. I liked the performances of the actors in the other supporting roles as well, particularly Ed Harris, who plays a mysterious U.S. government undercover agent.

There are two things that director Ron Howard and screenwriter Akiva Goldsman did in the film that I really admire. One is the way they found to show the audience the delusions and paranoia suffered by a schizophrenic. The other is how they were able to illustrate the essence of Nash's Nobel-winning mathematical idea in terms of guys trying to pick up girls in a bar.
