  Seeing as how this is one of my absolute favorite Christmas films of all time, I could easily ramble on about it for hours, but just for the sake of time, let me say that THIS is how a Christmas special is done. Perennial sad sack Charlie Brown is bummed out, and is having a hard time getting into the spirit of Christmas, especially with the growing focus on commercialism. On top of that, his earnest efforts to put on a decent Christmas play keep getting thwarted. It's fun for kids, and has a great message, but it's smart and thought provoking for adults as well. I'm glad that there's an overtly religious message in the movie. It took balls for them to keep it in, and you'd never see that kind of thing happen today in a modern animated special. That's what made Peanuts and Charles Schultz himself so brilliant. The kids are basically adults trapped in kid's bodies, but they still also act and talk like kids sometimes. This type of stuff treats kids with respect, and doesn't dumb things down for them. It's smart, mature, very clever, and vastly entertaining. One last thing to conlude the review on- the music: absolutely genius.

  I've seen this many times since 1965. It is to the point where I know exactly what is coming in the next scene, but I don't mind watching it each year. It still rings true every Christmas.

  Very few Christmas films are essential viewing but for me, it just isn't Christmas until I've watched A Charlie Brown Christmas. It's usually on at stupid O'clock in the morning on kids TV so I've gone as far as buying the DVD, Money well spent, in fact, I could probably quite happily watch it in the middle of the summer too! Merry Christmas Charlie Brown!

  A holiday classic. You may be surprised to find that this short cartoon is one of the most mature and accurate depictions of Christmas. The humor is also well advanced of its presentation. Charlie Brown does some soul searching to discover why he isn't excited by Christmas. Is it the commercialism of it all. For something that is 45 years old, this still has messages relevant today. It's ahead of its time and will certainly appeal to all ages.

  The best Christmas special ever! Anyone (probably a kid) watching it for the first time probably won't be impressed as most of A Charlie Brown Christmas's charm comes from the memories of being a kid and watching it right before Christmas--Dolly Madison commercials and all. Even though this is mostly based in nostalgia (at least for me) it's the peak of the animation and score (provided by Vince Guaraldi) for the Peanuts. It's still a great piece of animation with a great message. Way ahead of it's time and very necessary holiday viewing.

  We loved it as kids; a seasonal viewing tradition on television each year. The Biblical readings are a bit heavy coming out of the mouths of animated children, but this cartoon was made in different times. It has the "Christmas" word in the title, so expect some religion.

  This movie was on one time when I was at my brother in law's house. During the scene where Snoopy fights the Red Baron, my niece, bewildered, and a little angry, says "What's going on in this movie?!". I guess you have to grow up with it to appreciate it.
