I was watching a face in the crowd on turner classic movies,ten times!it was a good movie,my dad,and my mom went to go see it,when they were in high school! Bobby Pounds

December 18, 2006I never like the idea of remakes for remakes sake but this is a movie whose message doesn't get old. If they were to re-do this movie a few years ago I'd have said cast Garth Brooks as a modern day supposed salt o' the earth good ole boy who's actually a hateful, mean spirited, power-hungry creep. I have no idea if Brooks could pull off the acting required but his fame and popularity come close to Griffith's in the 1960's. I also heard something about a proposed gender-flip remake with Whoopi in the lead role a few years ago. Interesting idea and a few years ago maybe, but Whoopi's not as big as she once was. Just think of somebody with a loveable public personae who's got acting chops to play a baddie ( and willing to risk an unsympathetic role ), and you've got a candidate for Lonesome Rhodes 2.0
