An amazing movie. Very intelligent dialogues and well-thought. Funny, smart, and ... what can I say?! A splendid acting! Charming? Tom Cruise is astonishing, Nicholson is doing a great job, and Demi Moore, well, she is amazing.
Whoa...that "You can't handle the truth" scene was way more intense than expected...I loved this movie. Two of my favorite things put together--no, three. Tom Cruis, Law, and The Military. Yum yum.
Who would believe that Tom Cruise can act? He stands up well to the powerhouse performances of Nicholson, Sutherland and Moore. Convincing and engaging if a little long. Even if you don't like court room dramas it's worth watching the first few minutes where the army parade perform their drill. Outstanding stuff.
Very intense movie starring Tom Cruise,Demi Moore and Jack Nicholson the story about an Navy lawyer's struggle to uncover the truth about a court martial. A Few Good Men isn`t my type of film although many people thought it was great and it comes under the direction of Rob Reiner.
Brilliant acting from a large and talented cast, and stellar writing highlight this engrossing and riveting military courtroom drama. There are lots of memorable lines and moments, most of them involving Jack Nicholson, the Oscar-nominated scene stealer.
Two United States Marines (Wolfgang Bodison and James Marshall) are arrested on numerous charges, including the murder of a fellow soldier who wanted to be transfered in exchange of information of an incident at their base at Guatanimo Bay, Cuba. "Lt. Daniel Alistair Kaffee" (Tom Cruise), a lawyer who always plea-bargined his way to a win without entering a courtroom, is assigned to defend them.
"Lt. Kaffe's" first problem is to handle "Lt. Cmdr. JoAnne 'Jo' Galloway" (Demi Moore), who wants to be on the case so bad she gets the permission of "Pvt. Downey's" "Aunt Ginny" (Maud Winchester) to take over his part of his case. "Lt. Kaffe" declares himself lead council, with "Lt. Cmdr. Galloway" and "Lt. Sam Weinberg" (Kevin Pollak) as co-assistant council. His second, to keep his clients out of military prison on the grounds that they were under orders to haze "Pt. First Class William T. 'Willie' Santiago" (Michael DeLorenzo).
Jack Nicholson, who steals the courtroom scenes near the end of the movie, plays the accused superior commander. It is obvious to "Kaffe" that he is hiding more than he's telling, and he slowly learns that is exactly what "Col. Jessep" (Nicholson) is doing.
In this movie, all the crime scene clues which proves the defendants innocence are presented to the audience and are revealed through the eyes of "Kaffe" when he discovers them himself later on. You will raise an eyebrow when you realize that you saw a clue that might just help the defense's case.
The story drags a bit until the case goes to court. It then gets interesting as it is revealed that the defense has case is actually stronger than it appears to be earlier on. The performances of the main characters also become much stronger in court.
Prior to the scenes in the courtroom, the performances aren't extremely good, but are still quite strong. This is most evident with Cruise, Moore and Nicholson. Other performances are equally as strong, but they are weakened by lack of character development and amount of screen time.
None of the scenes really stand out in this movie, except for the famous in court confrontation between "Keefe" and "Jessup." However, that scene stands out only due to the performances of the principle actors and nothing else. The wardrobe, especially the military clothing, looks quite convincing as well.
"A Few Good Men" is carried by the performances of the cast and a pretty good screenplay written by Aaron Sorkin, who wrote the play the movie is based on. In my opinion, this film could be a good rental.
solid, intense, well-written courtroom drama. the twists were very well weaved in and the themes of moral code vs. honor code and the application of law, command, and responsibility were dealt with beautifully. the acting was truly magnificent and the characters were brought to life with deep, passionate, and multi-dimensional honesty. definitely one of Reiner's finest films.
Rob Reiner's story of military drama and laws is a fine film, and the best drama of 1992, with Cruise and Nicholson squaring off in one of the coolest performances ever put to screen. "You can't handle the truth!" Yeah, Cruise has nothing on Nicholson.
I was impressed by the military portrayal in this movie. Although a bit far fetched, the plot was still believable. Jack Nicholson was a perfect choice for his role.
Stylish courtroom drama of top quality, with an all-star cast. Excellent performances all round, especially in the highly memorable courtroom confrontation scene between Jack Nicholson and Tom Cruise. Nicholson is, as ever, fantastic, and delivers fantastic dialogue with his usual intensity
A Few Good Men was my absolute favorite Crime-Drama of all time. I really liked Jack Nicholson's acting in this one and Tom Cruise also did a fantastic job.
Courtroom dramas are always appealing to me and this one is the very best of all. Tom, Demi, Kiefer, Kevin and Jack are brilliant actors and they work so well together in this fantastic, gripping film.
While Tom Cruise's acting is on-spot intensively cocky & Demi Moore's is as noble as is possible for an actress who's mug, on an average day, can only be described as stunning, it is Jack Nicholson's limited on-camera performance that catches the audience's attention & seems to (as usual) carry more weight than that of a few good actors. Here, he's in a role that plays perfectly to his strengths. A mean ol' sunuvabitch with a focused confidence, a black heart & a wry look that you know he wears wether he's describing a blowjob from a female officer or warding off bullets from Cuban snipers in defense of this great country (and, more importantly, in defense of his military career). Nicholson does this to such a successful degree, that even though he doesn't really have all that much screentime in this film, the face of Col. Jessup in the witness chair is usually the 1st. image that comes up when this movie is mentioned. And as always, the mark of a great performance is to be able to deliver a line that ends up becoming a part of the culture. And if you don't agree with that, then there can only be one reason why: YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!!
This is the best to come in a very long time and to see what can happen as a result of misconduct in the military is riveting!! Cruise gets 2 oscars for his performance.
NO SEX SO A BIT BORING, TOM CRUISE GOOD LOOKING IN THS THOUGH AND HAS SOME GOOD LINES. HOW DO ACTORS/LAWYERS COME OUT WITH GREAT LONG INTELLIGENT SENTENCES ON SPOT IN COURT?
