A Fish Called Wanda Reviews and Ratings

This is a very funny comedy. Basically about a group of crooks who committ a crime and all try to double cross each other through out the film. The film has a great cast with John Cleese, Kevin Kline, Jamie Lee Curtis and Michael Palin. The dialouge and the characters are what ma...( read more)ke this such a very funny film. There is a nice blend of the British and American comedy styles for the movie. Well worth a watch. It made me laugh.

Entertaining and comical with great developed characters, sporting a transatlantic cast. A great bad guy role for Kevin Kline.

Very funny, although the plot was kind of convoluted at times. I really liked Ken and Otto was equally hilarious, although he was also a total jerk. Wanda was a disgusting slut, so I really wished she hadn't come out on top at the end. It's also weird that this movie was titled a...( read more)fter the fish when the fish had very little part in the movie. But WHATEVER. Anyway, a hilarious movie, as one would come to expect from Monty Python members John Cleese and Michael Palin.

Very few comedy experiences I ever had compare to the first time I watched this film. It takes the best aspects of Monthy Python's humor, adds a lot of mockery of national stereotypes, slapstick and political incorrectness. The four main characters are unique, all carried by thei...( read more)r outstanding actors, especially Kevin Kline deserved his Oscar as Otto, one of the rare occasions of the Academy recognizing comedy. The plot is smart, funny, entertaining, but it's the little things, the dialoges, the jokes that make this a true gem. Stuttering and Animal Cruelty Associations reacted outraged when this came out, the rest of the world peed their pants laughing.

Totally unfunny and non-interesting weird comedy with an awesome and clever story. Brilliant cast but it unfortunately has one of the worst actresses that have ever lived: Jamie Lee Curtis. Showing her tits gave her popularity and that's the truth. It has, however, some brilliant...( read more) moments. It barely achieved the 3 1/2 stars score. I'd prefer any Monty Python film anyday.

I saw this years ago, and had forgotten how truly hysterical it is. A couple of the Python crazies (John Cleese and Michael Palin), along with Jamie Lee Curtis and Kevin Kline, clown it up in this flick about a jewel heist and the efforts of all involved to screw over each other ...( read more)in order to keep the loot for themselves. Everyone did a wonderful job, but this film belongs to Kevin Kline. He deservedly won an Oscar for his role as Otto, the cocky, tactless, paranoid yet charming jewel thief with a love, but a gross misunderstanding, of philosophy. He simply steals every scene he's in. A sub-plot, in which Palin, as the animal-loving crook named Ken with a severe stutter, plans and then attempts to rub out the witness to the crime, is funny on its own. A couple of scenes that are mildly insensitive keep this from getting five stars, but it's a complete blast from start to finish.

UPDATE: Saw this again tonight, and although I still think it's hilarious, I found myself actually moved by John Cleese. It's shown early on that his marriage is a zero. And now here is this beautiful woman showing him attention and giving him...basically a reason to feel alive again. Knowing that Wanda was playing him (not giving anything away here...that is established early on) kind of bothered me this go round. I was imagining being in that situation and how I would feel when I found out all was not as I thought. Interesting how one's mood can change one's reaction to a film from one viewing to the next.

This movie was somewhat hilarious. A very decent attempt at smart and quirky humor. Bravo Cleese!

Wow. So critics love this film, flixters seem to generally agree that it's overrated, and not as funny as the hype would lead on to believe. Interesting how this always seems to hap...( read more)pen. Very rare do you see a balance in the general viewer ratings, and the critic ratings. Well, fuck all you trendy, bandwagon flixter assholes! Haha... this film is worth seeing for a little laugh, but not to pick apart and dissect. C'mon.. British humor people, just go with it a little!

John Cleese, a brilliant comedic mind, does very well crafting a story that's fast paced, and hilarious. He really digs deep into the irony of each situation, and the personalities of his characters. This makes for some pretty ridiculous situations, and very witty lines.

The contrast between cultures, and common stereotypes between Brits and Americans is exploited, naturally. Well, why the hell not, it's funny. I think it's just as fun for Brits to laugh at, as Americans. Plus, it relieves social tension... Win-win? ....Pure win!

So, just to wrap it up quickly, I'm not recommending this one to anyone in flixterland. It doesn't seem to be worth it unless a film's more obscure, and less liked by critics. Ha!

Without fail, whenever I see the scene where Otto is rehearsing his sincere apology, but just can't get it right - I cry with laughter.

"I'm very very very very... FFFFFUCK YOOOOU!"

Kline absolutely earned that Oscar here. I'd even say he earned two, but that's just me.

A gleefully devious classic, powered by four of the funniest people alive. Cleese and Curtis shine in their mismatched love story, while Palin and Kline orbit them with manic yin/yang chemistry.
