I absolutely love this sports movie. It was based on a true story too! Way back in the 1940's. This movie is a true classic in my family I don't know about yours though but we loved it!
A wonderful movie about women getting the opportunity of a lifetime to play America's favorite pasttime and to become an extraordinary league that is remembered. It wasn't until watching this movie that I even realized there ever had been an All American Girls Professional Baseball League.
It's ironic that, a game mostly associated with male players, a film which focuses on the women's first professional entry into the sport, would be the one that, for me, truly captures the feeling which best reflects of why this sport is truly an American pasttime. That the purpose of a game is, no matter how the political world events may be turbulently transpiring, we all can just escape for a little while, catch a ballgame & hopefully return into the real world with our spirits a little higher & our perspectives a little bit clearer. Because, as we all know by now, there is no crying in baseball.
a very underapperciated gem of a movie...far and away one of my all time faves...
Geena...Tom...Madonna...shouldve had oscars.
this movie is one of those movies where u laugh ...cheer and cry at least once b4 its over.

"There's no crying in baseball" I use to watch this movie everyday when I was a kid. It's a good movie. It'll make you laugh and cry at the same time. It teaches a valuable lesson about making sacrifices as well.
This movie has so many great actors and actresses in it, a real ensemble cast. And to see the first all women baseball team was really neat. This is one of my favorite movies.
I love Tom hanks and Gena Davis also ,I don't care for Madonna ,or whatever she calls herself these days ,lol ..The movie plays tug-a-war with the emotions, funny ,sad, etc. :)
I'm not much of a fan of chick flicks, or even movies that focus on chick-oriented stories, given the obvious reason. Still, this movie's okey. The director just wasn't successful in painting a clear picture of the stories behind the lives of the three main female characters. Aside from that, personally, I think that Tom Hanks character in this film was his worst on screen performance of his entire career.
Are You Crying????? There's No Crying in baseball. One Of my favourite lines in a flick of all time ahahahahahahaha. This is probably the only chicky flicky i will say yes to watch everytime no matter what, I loved it from start to finish and one of Tom Hanks Funniest Rolls that wasn't animated. Not to mention the cast of femmes and oh yeah a scout that just kills me everytime i see him, lol another gre8at line was i give the old wife a pickle tickle ahahahahha, but seriously, girls can play ball and well this is one the whole famdamly will watch, it has a wonderful story and makes you lol from start to finish. Two Thumbs Up Both Of Em. *****
i loove this movie!! we are the all american team we come from cities near in far we've got canadians irishmen and sweds were all for one wer one for all were all americans
I just can say that i love this movie..Perhaps isn't the best...but is absolutly adorable..Geena Davis, Madonna and of course Tom Hanks makes a great match
In the farm of Oregon Dottie Henson and Kit Keller are working on the farm. Sisters that do love each other, except when it comes to baseball. Kit wants to play in the league but is upset to hear that it is Dottie who is chosen to play for the AAPGL. (All American Pro Girls League) Dottie refuses to play unless Kit can come along. AAPGL was only made because of the World War II and all of the man were in the war. Along the way to the stadium they meet Marla Hooch who is a great hitter, but to most people not the prettiest girl. When they are going to try out they meet Doris and Mae because Doris threw a baseball at Dottie who caught it impressing Doris. They girls find out their new manager is Jimmy Dugan. Jimmy Dugan drinks a lot and is the worst manager until Dottie get through to him and he becomes a better person. Miss Cuthbert makes sure the rules are followed, no boys, no drinking or smoking until Mae poisons her meal. The girls go to party and Marla who had been overlooked a lot is noticed by a guy named Nelson. Dottie's husband Bob is in the army and when news comes that a man in the army has been killed it turns out to be Betty Spaghetti. After awhile, Kit feels that once again like at home she is behind Dottie's shadow. Dottie notices it to and asks to be transferred to another team. Of course Mr. Lovitz doesn't want the best player to be transferred so he has Kit transferred to Racine. Kit feels that Dottie did this on purpose. Kit plays for the Racine while Dottie plays for Rockford. In the final scene Dottie is crashed into by Kit and she drops the ball, letting Racine win, making Kit have her own stardom instead of being in Dottie's shadow. The girls have a reunion and they remember the fun they had together
absolutely great. i can watch this movie over & over. rosie o'donnell & madonna make a great pairing, & keep the movie going at parts. geena davis is wonderful as well, and tom hanks is great as the asshole coach. wonderful to see the women's baseball league, and how it really hit off during that time when no one thought it would.
During the Second World War many of America's male baseball stars were drafted into the forces, and it appeared that the nation might be deprived of its favourite sport. An entrepreneur therefore had the idea of creating an all-female baseball league. 'A League of their Own' tells the story of some of the women who played in that league. At the centre of the drama is the rivalry between two sisters, Dottie and Kit, who sign for the same team, the Rockford Peaches. The sisters have contrasting characters. Dottie is the more talented player, but Kit is more aggressive and determined to succeed. Kit's aggression and the sibling rivalry between her and Dottie lead to dissension in the team's dressing room, and Kit is traded to a rival team, the Racine Belles. The climax of the film comes when Rockford and Racine meet in the finals of the league championship, with Kit and Dottie on opposite teams. Geena Davis absolutely looks the part with her cool confidence and stately figure while Lori Petty is scrappy and believable as the little sister whose puck. But the guy who really holds the whole thing together is Tom Hanks as one-time home run king Jimmy Dugan, who is now the Rockford Peaches' alcoholic manager. His transformation from a crude, uncaring drunk to the team's hard-nosed but soft-hearted leader is very well and believably done. There is of course a somewhat self-conscious retrospective look at the sorry political and social state of women sixty years ago, but Marshall does not wallow in the politics. Instead she emphasizes a fun-to-watch tale with real human characters. The unpredictable, but believable ending was very agreeable.
Very funny looking at those old baseball uniform.
Some parts are funny and some are stupid...
Hey, there's Madonna!
I've never expect her 2 play at any movie..
hahaha
It's a pretty good film. "There's no crying in baseball" Madonna didn't act as much, maybe that's why it wasn't that bad and besides the theme song is nice.
