Plot: Episodic saga from the first half of the 20th century follows Hero Hua from an ill-omened June day in his youth to a showdown 17 years later with a disaffected member of his martial-arts school, a Jap...( read more read more... )anese named Invincible. Tensions between Chinese and Japanese, plus U.S. racism, mark the tale. Hero marries Jade, leaves her in China when he goes to America as an indentured servant, rebels against cruel labor conditions, and is joined by her in New York City where she has twins. Jump ahead 16 years: their son Sword comes to New York looking for his father. There, Sword hears many stories of his father, which we see in flashbacks, and the stage is set for the battle with Invincible.

Coming from a comic book, you can understand the fantasy of this film. Like the Japanese comics, The Chinese are filled with fantastic feats of fighting with mind over body.

This film is a very mixed bag which could delight fans of the genre. For me however I was not delighted and found myself very bored between fight scenes. The fights scenes were not that great except for one or two, mixed with some good cgi the water sword fight was impressive whilst th eothers fell short of delivering. The production value oft his Hong kong film was rather high with some good backdrop pieces. The acting, script and direction did let this film down however, it was a shame as it had some potential

Although a fantastic movie, its a bit confusing as to what happened to the sister, it doesn't say. So it leaves a feeling of incompleteness.

I always confuse it with The Storm Riders.. but I dislike this movie more because there is Nicholas Tse in it!

Not too good.. thought it would be much better.. but it's always hard to make a movie based upon a comic.. =P

The Special effects and high wire kung fu is actually pretty good for this kinda flick - a modern fantasy story.

Trying to be Crouching Tiger, Hidden Drgaon, and failing. Not bad, but only for the martial arts movie enthusiasts.

this is one of the precursours films to crouching tiger hidden dragon. one of the early wire fu fantasy settings that looks like live action anime. it's a good attempt, but like anime, the story does seem a bit typical and the conceppts get a little too far fetched, but it remains entertaining and enjoyable none the less.
