criminally overlooked, and the film that brought an end to costners box office gold in the early 90s.

clint eastwood, directs and co stars, as a texas ranger, in 60s texas, who has to hunt down fujitive kevin costner fresh out of jail, and on route kidnapps a young boy played by t.j lowther. as they go threough texas, tipically a bond developes, and the kid learns a new lease of life as him being a jehova religion, he gets to do all the stuff his parents wouldent normally allow, but with eastwood, on his tail, he knows time is short. love this film, and a great role for costner, he was in the top of his game from late 80s to early 90s, and this deserves to be seen more, eastwood as ever, showing a great nack for acting, directing, a nice leisurly paced film, which does take its time, but all the better for it, agreat road movie up there with sugerland express, which has many similerities, great looking texas landscape as well, a great chase movie

In my opinion this is one of Clint's best films and dare I say even better than his previous endeavour Unforgiven. With one of my favourite actors Kevin Costner at the helm of this gripping man-hunt across the U.S and in particular Texas this movie is a fantastic movie to watch and connect with.

Costner has one of his best performances ever as an escaped con on the run with an 8 year old boy as a hostage, and Costner becomes the "father-figure" the boy never had. This movie is really touching and Clint's clever and I want to say effective use of violence helps us empathize with Costner's character and his opinions and attitude towards child abuse.

And finally, as to be expected is Clint's amazing eye for scenery, really capturing the rural South of the US of A and mixed with great acting provides us with both great comic relief and heart-wrenching emotion. On all levels this movie is a masterpiece of two mens journey, one mans just ending, and ones just beginning make this a great film.

Clint Eastwood?s follow up to Unforgiven continues with the more enlightened take on violence seen in his later directorial works. The film takes place in Texas during the early 60s and depicts a manhunt for an escaped convict who has taken a child hostage. The convict, played by Kevin Costner, is not the cruel killer the police think he is and an odd Stockholm-ish friendship forms between the convict and his young hostage. The film is very well directed and Costner gives what may be the best performance of his career, I usually hate him but he really impressed me here. Eastwood is also good playing a smaller role than usual, unfortunately a lot of the supporting and bit performers are fairly weak and there are some poor bits of Hollywood stupidity. The overall story is good and the direction is great, chalk this up as a flawed but still very strong work.

This is one of my favorites and, in my opinion, an underrated gem. Costner gives one of his best performances in this film.

An erie and dark picture with a side to the story making it as unique of a film as you'll ever find.
